I watched the post game featuring Don Cherry's rant after game 4. Did you guys see it? He was dressed in his favorite clown outfit(Sorry, if it looks like and acts like it, it probably is______.) First he says Crosby is the best player in the world of hockey. He's close but there are others I think are a little better than him. He then gets on Malkin's case and says he needs to play hockey in July in Russia or something very close to this stupidity. What is Therrien thinking he says? Well Mr. Cherry, Malkin has been great the whole season and did real well in the first part of the playoffs. Have you heard of players in slumps? Maybe Detroit has a lot to do with his problem. Maybe that is why you don't coach anymore. Talk about throwing players under a bus. I don't like Therrien that much and I guess Cherry doesn't either. BUT, I do see what Therrien is doing here and you have to give the man some credit. He's thinking maybe, just maybe , Malkin will recover in time and start scoring again. He is showing faith in his players DON. Sometimes you have to do that. Leave him alone for cryin out loud. He knows he hasn't played well. Does Crosby need to play more? Cherry stated he played 6 minutes in the first period of game 4. How many minutes did Zetterberg and Datsyuk play in the first period? Therrien is trying to keep Crosby away from them and that is hard to do when those guys play a lot of minutes. Lidstrom also plays a ton of minutes. Crosby does need to play more but if he does, like what Barry(I'm on Detroits side now) Melrose stated, he will have to kill penalty's. Does Pitt want him to kill penalty's against the Wings? Then there was the rant about Gary Roberts not being on the power play. Cherry stated that Roberts was not out there for the Pens on the power play during the 5 on 3. That was probably the only good point he had. Roberts is a tough, big guy that would probably do well in front of the net. Why ESPN thought this was a good thing to add the Clown Cherry is beyond me. He speaks pretty much of the obvious that everyone else knows. I remember watching Cherry on Hockey Night in Canada while I lived in Detroit several, several years ago and even though I really didn't like him then, at least he was dressed down a bit and wasn't so difficult to look at as he is now. I'm waiting for him to give us the Dennis Rodman look any day now.

Damn good blog.
The only thing about Roberts is that he is not on the #1 PP....although the #1 PP didn't score. Hindsight is great isn't. Some of Cherry's rantings were like the fool who boasted about shutting the barn door after all of the horses got OUT.
There's a lovely Irish saying that goes "I can see the past quite clearly, and the present if the weather is clear enough...." Man, how some people get to make their reputations on "coud-have-beens" after the fact..... Geez.

Agree with trashing Malkin. Yeah the Wings are tough, but what bothers me is that it truly looks like he gave up Game 1! And then having 13 turnovers in Game 4? Wow, he needs to be trashed, hopefully he will wake up and respond.
