Boy, did anyone see that Penguins-Red Wings game last night? Boy, a triple-OT game in the Stanley Cup Finals, there is nothing better. The Penguins took an early lead, but then the Wings put up 2 straight goals to take the lead, and then the Penguins put up a goal with just seconds left to force overtime. Then, after 2 1/2 awesome periods of scoreless hockey, with an awesome performance from Penguins goalie Marc Andre Fleury, the Penguins scored, giving them a 4-3 win. A classic game.
But we need to just look at how big Petr Sykura's game tieing goal was. just 34 seconds away from their season ending, Sykura, who had produced absolutely nil all series, put in a clutch goal. Not only that, the Red Wings were so close to winning the cup, the Cup was actually being polished in the locker room. But these rough, tough little Penguins are making a run at this. Not since the '42 Maple Leafs have we seen a team come back from at least a 3-1 deficit to win the Stanley Cup, but maybe this team could do it. They do have so much star power, and Malkin is a sleeping dragon right now. So I'm not saying that the Penguins are gonna pull off this comeback, but if it comes down to a 7th game, and I was the Red Wings, i would very scared.

The Detroit Pistons fired their head coach Flip Saunders today. After losing in the Eastern Conference Finals for the 2nd straight year, the Pistons announced the Coach Saunders will not return next season. Now, was this the right decision? I mean, the Pistons had the second best record in the NBA this season. They just went back to the Conference Finals for the sixth straight year. And they want to fire the coach? Well, this team probably should have gone farther than just the Conference Finals at least one of these last two seasons. And if you really want to sum up why Flip Saunder was fired, listen to this quote from former Piston Chris Webber. When asked during Game 5 of the Conference Finals, when guest-analyst Webber was asked what Flip would be saying at halftime to the losing Pistons, Webber said:
"No disrespect to Flip, but it doesn't matter what Flip says,"
Also implying that the Pistons don't listen to Flip anyway. Any questions?

Did you hear? Tonight, the biggest event in the history of mankind is going to take place. Goverment offices are closed, and every is encouraged to get to the nearest TV to see what we will undoubtledly remember for the rest of our lives: Joba Chamberlain will make his first career start. (Wild applause from the crowd) I, personally, am cancelling all of my plans for tonight to watch every second of it. One day, we will look back on this moment and tell our grandkids about it.
But seriously, if before now, you did not believe in New York bias in the media, just look at this. At the same time, in Cleveland, Indians reliever Tom Mastny will make his first career start. So far, both have accomplished about the same thing: average stats. But one is hailed as the greatest thing ever, and one will just go out and pitch tonight. Just saying, this is why ESPN makes me sick sometimes.
(P.S. Whenever I'm feeling blue, I just look at this picture, and my life has meaning again)

Player of the Day
A new featue on Deep Thoughts. Today's player is Casey Blake, 3B for the Cleveland Indians. Yesterday, in the Tribe's 13-9 win over the Rangers, Casey had 2 HRs and 7 RBI. He also hit a 3 run double to lead the Tribe to victory. Currently, Casey Blake is hitting .478 with runners in scoring position. A little sunshine in a depressing Tribe season.

The Dallas Cowboys and WR Terrell Owens recently agreed to a 4-year, $37 million dollar extension. Owens was going to be in the last year of his contract this season. When Terrell finishes the conract, he will be 39 years old. I have one question: why would you do this? Owens has been a distraction every where he went, and he has two nice seasons, and you throw money at him? Why? There is no reason to guarantee T.O. anything. He will just grow complacent and start complaining. And do you really think he'll play until he's 39? This makes no sense, maybe Parcells leaving is alreay starting to bite them.
