A reliable source has confirmed that the Penguins Ownership and Upper Management are to meet next week to decide the fate of Coach Therrien. Word is that many of the Penguin players are fed up with the Coach. Also to note that Mario was opennly unimpressed with the preparation of Pens for the run at the Cup. Also, key unrestricted free-agents have mentioned to Shero that they will not return if Therrien is running the show. This is breaking new so I will keep you updated.

Yeah...it was Mario that ran Scotty Bowman out of The Burgh, too.

Hey, didn't Scotty hoist that Cup last night?!!!!

Key UFAs...Orpik and 19 year old Staahl. Waaaah, the coach doesn't like me!

June 5, 2008  04:52 PM ET

What's your source Juggo? I haven't seen this info anywhere else. I know Orpik has clashed with him...but I assume his salary will be more than Pens can afford regardless.

June 5, 2008  04:53 PM ET

T-fo...I read this in a paper either in Canada or Detroit. I think it was the former. I was reading a lot this morning. That's how I knew it was Orpik and Staal.

I just googed like crazy, and couldn't find anything.

June 5, 2008  05:24 PM ET

A friend that works for ESPN the magazine. They said it looks like they are going to toss him for sure. Not sure if I agree. Orpik and Staal have clashed, but one of the major pickles is that Malkin said he wont sign an extension if Therrien is Coach.

June 5, 2008  05:30 PM ET

Another word, is that Malkin suffered a concussion in practice 2 days before Game 1 of the Cup. He wanted to sit out Game 1 and possibly Game 2 but Therrien forced him to play. It was so hush hush that Lemieux nor Shero found out till the day B4 Game 4. The trainer who discovered that Malkin had a concussion didnt make it to Detroit for Game 5 and was not with the team all week. Therrien is on double secret suspension or locked out of the Pens clubhouse till this is all sorted and they meet with him next week. My source says its gonna be a fireworks show and that a lot of rumors are going to be started but this is the plain and simple truth.

Hey, Pens loss...someone else's gain.....

June 5, 2008  05:38 PM ET

Orpik really isn't news, it's been well documented and commented on during the playoffs, and even during the season locally (that he clashed with Therrien).

Personally, aside from locking up Fleury and Malkin long term, Brooks Orpik and Staal would be my biggest priorities if at all possible. That's over Malone and Hossa. I might even be OK with dealing Malkin if it meant keeping these 2, and maybe Malone (providing they get something decent in return).

That's not a reflection on Malkin's playoff struggles, but I think the paycheck that Malkin wants, combined with what Crosby gets, will handcuff them from a depth perspective.

So, if Therrien needs to go to keep the young core in tact, unfortunately he has to go.

We really should watch the "rumors" until they became "fact".......

June 6, 2008  11:29 AM ET

It'd be nice to see Mario step down to be behind the bench!

June 6, 2008  02:52 PM ET

You surely jest......

June 23, 2008  12:05 PM ET

Hey stupid....how long did it take YOU to even FIND this?!

I know all about Orpik's tiff with Therrien. That's why I didn't reply to perfect360. And I also know Orpik wants to stay. And Staal...a UFA this year or next year is still a UFA! It's obvious you don't read all of the posts about the Pens or you would already know where I stand, "pensfan1".

I posted this to see if I/we could lure intellectuals like you. It's obvious the other 590+ viewers saw right through it so who's "stupid" now? We get a kick out of e-mailing each other and say "Hey, check out how late so-and-so took to post...."

Guess we found out that this "reliable source" is NOT so reliable....
