Franchise Tag: There is a problem with the Frachise Tag. It should be optional or a new contract should be mandatory. If it's optional, the players can leave, end of story, but the Tag would be useless. If the NFL made it mandatory for the team to sign a long term contract with the player then that would be better. No tenders, just contracts.
Culpepper: He was signed to a contract to lead the team and win games. He didn't. Saban had faith in Culpepper, Cameron doesn't. Culpepper isn't Cameron's project, he was Saban's. Cameron is putting in a new system that clearly is working in San Diego, and God speed.
Samuel: You are getting paid millions and millions of dollars. Stop complaining. Have the PAtriots ever been unfair to a player? (More specifically, Belichick and Pioli) Sit tight. They will sign you to a long term deal if you be a good boy. They don't need a guy who had one great year, they even won the Super Bowl without an injured Ty Law (their #1 CB at that time). The Patriots are in a class by themselves, and if Samuel is willing to jeopardize his future career for some more cash, then he is dumb.
NFL Draft:
Ginn: As everyone knows, the biggest surprise of the draft was Ted Ginn to the Dolphins. riving home from my lacrosse championship, I heard the pick on the radio and I didn't speak the rest of the remaining 2 hours. But as time goes on I beign to like the pick. Throughout the season I saw plenty of mock drafts having Ginn ranked in the top 10. They saw his route running, but still thought he was good enough to be a top 10 pick. He has the speed and athleticism to become a potent threat in the offense, and I am putting my faith in Cam Cameron, who helped build the Chargers' electrifying offense.
Quinn: I keep telling myself he's a product of the system. Cameron would have taken him had he saw the need to, but there must have been something besides the system that threw him out. But if he does become an All-Pro, I might cry. But right now he is holding out, good career start.
Russell: I do not think he is a surfire NFL great. He had one great year and that was it. He has the physical tangibles in him, but so did Ryan Leaf who was obviously a bust. And Akili Smith. Who? Exactly.
Concussions: Obviously concussions are a problem. It doesn't take a doctor to realize that. Anything that messes up a player's head can not be a positive thing. No matter what the NFL does though, players will be rushed back into action because they get paid for being injured and who wants to pay someone who isn't working? It's just the natural cycle of things, if a player doesn't feel like he can play yet, he should be responsible enough to tell his coach so. He's a grown man.
Discipline: It's about time. The NFL is littered with thugs now. These young men have the honor and privelege to play football, a GAME, for a living. They get paid millions of dollars to do something fun. Instead of embracing it, they squander their talent and they ruin the NFL's good name. Pacman hasn't been found guilty of anything, but he shouldn't be around that sort of business to begin with. Tank Johnson deserves all 8 weeks, no reduction. So does Chris Henry. I'd personally like to see Vick out for the season. He is an embarassment to the Falcons organization, to the NFL, and to himself. Thank you Goodell for finally putting these childish, tantrum-throwing players in their place.
Out-of-Country Games: NO! this is the NATIONAL Football League. the NFL, not the IFL. I'll be damned if I see the sport get outsourced to Mexico or Europe. Europe has the NFLE, that's theirs. Until they want to supply players year in and year out, the NFL should stay on American soil. If there is even talk of the Super Bowl outside the U.S., I'd flip out.
