ANDRE MILLER

Andre Miller, the 32-year-old point guard was acquired from Denver in the Allen Iverson deal in the middle of last season. He arguably played the best basketball of his life this 2007-2008 season. He averaged career highs in points(17), FG%(49%) and his lowest turnovers(2.5 per game) since his rookie year. It was his first full season in a Sixer uni and he was the main reason Philly found themselves in the playoffs. In my eyes the Richard Pryor look-a-like was the team MVP. Here's a link to his player profile.

The always soft-spoken Miller ran the offense with great effectiveness all season. He was perfect at getting all the young players good looks and when called upon to be the Sixers' go-to guy, he did just that. Not only was Miller the perfect teammate and perfect floor general, but he also played in all 82 games this season continuing his durable career, in which he's only missed 3 games.

Now that we got all that team MVP, perfect teammate, duarable stuff out of the way we'll change gears. Dre's future with the Sixers beyond this upcoming season is still up in the air. Miller is under contract through the summer of 2009 when he becomes an free agent. By the time he hits the market he'll be 33 years old. Sixers GM Ed Stefanski has stuck by Miller in his short time with the Sixers. For example, last February many people(including me) thought Stefanski should attempt to trade Miller and continue to get younger. Stefanski kept Miller, claiming he hadn't been blown away by any offers and Miller repaid Eddy and us as fans with a magnificent playoff run. That being said, neither Stefanski nor Andre Miller have been too enthusiastic when it comes to discussing an extension.

My thoughts on the future of the marriage between Miller and the Sixers all depends on the upcoming season and the figures of the contract. I think we should see how he does this season before even thinking about re-signing him to a lengthy and/or lucrative deal. Miller's a great point guard and I think we could be contenders in the east with him for the next few years. That is, as long as we acquire some talent this summer along with our young guys continuing to develop. However, I'm a huge fan of Lou Williams and would not be upset one bit if the Sixers decided to let Andre go next summer and allow Lou to take over as point guard. I'm not just saying that because I love me some Lou-Will, because I also wouldn't mind acquiring a young point guard this summer and letting him take over in 09-10.

Ultimately we'll see what happens this season with 'Dre Miller. He isn't getting any younger, so he can't keep getting better, right? That line drive jump shot of his can't keep going in, can it? We'll just have to wait and see. My message to the Eddy Stef and the Sixers. Do not extend give Miller a lucrative or lengthy deal anytime soon.

Note: This will conclude our player profiles at the point guard position because the only guy we haven't covered is Kevin "Caterpillar 'stash" Ollie. Kevin's a real solid 10th man, but I don't feel the need to player profile a 400-year-old bench player who probably will never see a Sixer uniform again. We'll make this short and sweet. Unrestricted free agent. 35 years old. The back-up point guard on my NBA All-Ugly-Team. DO NOT RE-SIGN HIM. That is all. Look for shooting guards later this week.
