Stamford Bridge Wednesday 11 June 2008- Hello Chelsea fans. I apologize for the lack of updates over the last three weeks. Today's news however, is being published with a sense of urgency. I want to make sure that everyone is aware that Chelsea FC has selected Portugal's Luiz Felipe Scolari as their new Manager. Scolari is busy right now Coaching Portugal in the Euro 2008 and won't officially take the helm at Chelsea until July 1st. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's hiring of a World Cup winner is drastically different from his appointment of the inexpierenced Grant last September. Scolari becomes the fourth manager assigned by Chelsea under Abramovich's tenure as owner. AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti, new Manchester City boss Mark Hughes and former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini have all been considered prior to Scolari's hiring.
The Chelsea Press issued this statement earlier today: "He is one of the world's top coaches with a record of success at country and club level. Scolari gets the best out of a talented squad of players and his ambitions and expectations match ours. He was the outstanding choice. Out of respect for his current role and to ensure minimum disruption to this work there will be no further comment from Chelsea nor from Felipe about his new role until his employment with us commences."
In further developements: The Portuguese are on the verge of advancing to the quarterfinals of the European Championship after downing the Czech Republic today 3-1. The Brazilian born Scolari looks to be an exellent choice as the Chelsea leader. I just want to remind everyone that Scolari guided the Brazilian National team to the 2002 World Cup Championship and is currently coaching Cristiano Ronaldo at the Euros. I'm going to take a second to warn anyone who might not be familier with Scolari, this man has an explosive temper so be prepared for some antics on the Stamford Bridge sidelines this coming season.
