Working with a native of Wisconsin, I get to hear a lot about the Brewers (which is funny because this individual was VERY Quiet prior to last year). Watching the game last night with a little extra zeal, based on the opponent, I had an epiphany. What's up with Angel Campos?
I am older, and have slept since then, so I need help. In Colorado last year, Berkman was thrown out for saying "no way" to a called strike on his check swing. The ump, wasn't it Campos? And didn't we get the short end of a couple of calls in that series. It was later in the year, and we were out of it, but still.
Last night, Campos again ruled against the 'Stros on a check swing on Mike Cameron (and no this is not the conspiracy part). Ausmus argues and gets tossed. Catchers can't give input/argue on check swings now? Are you serious? Cameron gets to first, and is called safe, on a very close (but looked correct) play, on a pick off/ quick throw behind the runner from Quintero. Then Cameron was picked off by the pitcher, on another close play, but called safe by Campos. Berkman goes nuts. Cooper comes out again. And the stories diverge. Campos claimed that when Cooper threw his hat, it hit Campos. Crew Chief Bell said that Cooper was ejected before he threw is hat, for something that he said. Regardless, Campos had a ball last night ensuring that every close call that inning went against the 'Stros, and tossed 2 people when they argued with him.
Here is the Grassy Knoll Theory...does Campos have it in for us? He seems to have a high percentage of Astro ejections on his resume over the last season or so...
And the only thing worse, is Cameron trumpeting "I was safe every time..." Well, in Angel's eyes' you were...
