I was going to do a series of eight blogs on the 2007 NCAA Football season.  My first installment was about the SEC, but there were only 23 views and no comments through two days.  I was hoping it may stir up some debates, but I guess not.  So, I'll settle with a preseason top ten that will predict how things will look at the end of the year.

1.  LSU Tigers:  I think LSU will be undefeated this year (a tall task in the SEC).  Matt Flynn is a versatile QB who played good whenever Russell was hurt.  The defense is tops in the country and DT Glenn Dorsey will be a top five pick in next year's draft.

2.  USC Trojans:  USC is the favorite to win it all now.  John David Booty is a very accurate QB, but he lost his top two WRs.  The defense is better than what it gets credit for, but LSU's defense will be too good in the national title game.

3.  West Virginia Mountaineers:  The Mounties are a very talented team lead by the QB/RB tandem of Pat White and Steve Slaton.  Both should be considered legitimate Heisman contenders and Louisville and Rutgers are the only two teams that will challenge WV, but they'll still win both games.  For WV's sake WE NEED A PLAYOFF.

4.  Texas Longhorns:  Colt McCoy is a very talented young QB and Limas Sweed is a goo reciever.  If Mack Brown can shore up some of the defensive holes, Texas will compete for the title.

5.  Michigan Wolverines:  Henne, Hart, and Manningham are all back.  All of these guys will help Michigan become one of the countries best offenses.  They should be Big 10 champions.

6.  Florida Gators:  I don't believe that Tim Tebow will be an All-American yet, but he should be good and the Gators are deep.  If they don't finish in the Top Ten, their season will be a dissapointment.

7.  Wisconsin Badgers:  PJ Hill is a big, bruising runningback for a good Badger team.  Wisconsin could very well be a BCS team.

8.  Hawaii Rainbow Warriors:  The only thing standing between Hawaii and an undefeated season is a contest with Boise State.  Colt Brennan will lead the Warriors to victory and the nation's fourth undefeated team (but they'll lose a BCS bowl game).

9.  Auburn Tigers:  Brandon Cox is finally healthy and Brad Lester and Ben Tate make up two very good runningbacks.  The defense is always one of the best, and Auburn should be bound for a January bowl game.

10.  Virginia Tech Hokies:  The Hokie-Birds return Brandon Ore at runningback with seven other offensive starters back.  Frank Beamer is an excellent coach and should lead Tech to a ACC Title.

VT bless their souls, at 10, I don't think so

VT, Wisconsin and Hawaii???? You have got to be kidding. The only thing they have is a weak schedule. Hawaii looks good against a weak team and VT will have a hard year. Wisconsin will be steady but stay at 12-15 with their weak schedule.

I agree with the other teams and you might watch UGA. How they start will be a sign of the season. If their defense shows up; they will make a stir this year. I think LSU and Florida are stronger but UGA is right behind them next year.

Where is OU, UCLA, and Louisville? OU has a good defense and two solid running back returning and the new kid Murphy that is suppose to be the second coming of Reggie Bush. The only reason they will have any losses is they have to play Texas. UCLA, is going to be real good, a team returning most of its starters that be USC last year. Finally Louisville, didnt Brian Broham return, that alone will win you alot of games especially in the Big East where it WV and Louisville and nobody else, yes I am leaving out Rutgers because last year was a fluke. They will not finish in the top 10 this year.

OU will have losses because: 1.) They did NOT have a good defense last year and lost their stars from that mediocre unit & 2.) Because half of us could come in and compete for the QB job.

OU is going to be fine, look at the Horns last yr and Colt McCoy no one saw that coming. OU probably has the same thing. I am not even a OU fan, I hate OU but I am smart enough to know that OU reloads they do not rebuild. Who care if they have a quarterback turn and hand the thing off to their two running backs that stepped in while Adrian Peterson was hurt. Then mix in a reverse to that Murphy kid and the rest is east. If OU is going to be so bad then why does everybody have them in their top ten?

No way Michigan, didnt there defense get gutted?

Focusing on the Non-BCS schools for a minute, Hawaii in the top 10 is a stretch; they have a terribly weak schedule, plus they end the year with Boise St (which will be a loss for the Rainbow Warriors). TCU will be strong this year and if they can pull off the upset against Texas, then they will have a good shot at craking into a BCS game. BYU is another one, if they can get past TCU then they also have a favorable schedule that would allow them to be in a BCS game (assummnig they are undefeated). Can't wait for college football!

MIchigan lost a couple of their defensive studs, but they kept most of their good linebackers and their defensive line is solid, the only problems could be in the secondary. Michigan's offense should be able to overcome that.

USC is the best team in the nation.they should be at #1

First of all, I will admit that OU did do way better than I thought last year, and under Stoops, they never seem to fall completely off the wagon (no punn intended) with a 6-6 season. But OU did walk the tightrope though. They were very close to losing a LOT of games, they lucked out.

I think OU still gets respect because of their history. I don't think they get top 3 respect year in and year out anymore for the reasons Stewart Mandel wrote about. I don't fear their defense at all.

I don't think their QB will be nearly as good as Colt was. We had a feeling Colt would be really good. He, unlike all of the current OU qbs, was highly recruited. We just weren't sure because he came from such a small school. I have a feeling that because it's OU and they torture me, the QB won't be as bad as they should be, but there's NO WAY he's close to as good as Colt was.

I do fear their running game, as weird as that sounds in the post AD era.

I'd have to go with USC first as much as I hate them they are the most loaded team in the nation until someone proves otherwise.
