06:01 AM ET  06.13 | Well now that we have without a doubt seen that Matt Hughes has come to the end of the road in the UFC. I think it won't be long before the rest of lay and pray generation of UFC fighters go the way of the dinasaurs. Don't get me wrong i used to love watching Matt Hughes fight as much as the next guy. Unfortunatly for him the days of just taking guys to the ground, laying on them, and occasionally punching them with clean shots, and hitting a them a hundred times in the arms and hands are over. I think Matt should go ahead and get his grudge match in with Matt Serra and then get out and enjoy retirement and possibly training fighters. The new generation of fighters have taken it upon themselves to be multi-faseted combat competitors. Guys like Georges St. Pierre and B.J. Penn, and Anderson Silva have become the prototypes for being competitive in UFC. It is time for guys like, and it pains me to say this, Randy Coture, Tito Ortiz, Sean Sherk, to hang up the gloves. For that matter guys like Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva need to be thinking about it soon they are just the oppisite of the lay and pray group. They are mostly just great strikers who don't like to be on the mat. It pains me to say this to because these are the guys that made UFC and MMA what it is today and if they are getting old that must mean I am getting old right along with them. Its just a shame they did most of their best fighting in the years when UFC wasn't a profitable company and won't reap the rewards, and that others will dine on the fruits of their labor. Lastly will some one tell these promoters to quit putting Tank Abbott into MMA fights. The guy was never that great to start with, yes he did hit as hard as if not harder than anyone else in the sport. Since he obviously doesn't have the self respect to quit on his own it is time for the promoters to stop hireing this guy to be a stepping stone for some new guy like in the Kimbo Slice fight. Will someone also tell Dana White the biggest fight in the UFC is BJ Penn vs. GSP or GSP vs. Spider Silva and give us what we want. Give it to us now. The only other fight I would really like to see is Wanderlei move down to 185 and fight the other Silva. Peace and I'm out.
