I just got back from the greatest vacation of my life, a baseball tour that started in Boston and ended in Chicago seeing some of the great classic ball parks and some of the great new parks!
Fenway Park
Overall: A
My seats were down the left field line on the first deck, about 15-20 rows from the Green Monster.
Cleanlyness: B+
WOW! I walked in expecting the place to be fairly dirty, afterall it is the oldest park going. However, I was really surised at the cleanlyness of the place, no garbage on the ground, and people coming around to collect the garbage in the standing room area.
People, Fans: A
Wasn't too terribly surprised to find out the people there are great, I have some friends from Boston, they were in general nice and knowledgable people.
People, Staff: C
The staff that I came across was generally dis-interested in being there and not fan friendly. From being pushed by a security gaurd trying to get by me to the beer guy gving me a dirty look for asking what the price was, I was not impressed.
Bathrooms: A
Again, for an older park, I expected the bathrooms to be dirty, cramped and in short supply. I had it completely backwards! The bathrooms were big, clean and easy to get in and out of.
Food/Drink: B
I didn't get a good chance to sample the food there (I ate at a Microbrewery/restaurant outside the stadium before the game) but there were a lot of places to buy and a lot of options inside the stadium, not to mention, multiple brands of beer.
Seating: C-
I had heard bad things about the seating at the park, unfortunately they were true. People were a lot smaller when this place was built. I'm a little shy of six foot one and physically could not fit in the seats without risking the loss of my kneecaps. Not to mention the pillars that support the upper deck being in the way the whole game.
Yankee Stadium
Overall: C-
Our seats were in the left centerfield Bleachers, in hindsight, I wouldn't recommend these seats to my worst enemy.
Cleanlyness: D
I figured with the allstar game coming this year, eventhough it is the last year of the park, that they would at least sweep up occasionally. The whole place was filthy, bathrooms with papertowl holders broken in to three pieces on the floor... overall, really, really bad.
People, Fans: B
Again, we were in the bleachers, mostly groups, very few people that acctually are from New York. The people that were there and from the big apple seemed adverse to interaction. I would have given this a lower score except for the hilarious altercation between a Yankee fan and a guy wearing a David Wright Jersey.
People, Staff: C
The people selling souvineers were nice, everyone else was very rude.
Bathrooms: F
Absolutely effing disgusting, New York was a dirty city in general, but the bathrooms were a freaking joke.
Food: B
If they sold beer I could legitimately give this an A (see next score) the hot dogs weren't great, but food is plentiful and not exceptionally expensive.
Seating: C
It turns out that the bleachers are treated like thier own little leper colony at Yankee stadium, no access to the rest of the park, and its a "family section" with no beer sales and nowhere to stand on the concourses. The seats themsleves weren't to great either, I was three rows up in the bleachers, but I still had to look past monument park, the bull pen and a tree, a freaking tree!
PNC Park
Overall: A
My seats were in the first level, near the back of the section, straight up from third base.
Cleanlyness: A
As expected, in a new park, very clean and wide open.
People, Fans: C
I could probably give this a higher score, the only problem was that there weren't any Pirates fans there! It was a weekday, day game, but the place was a ghost town.
People, Staff: B+
Beer venders, customer service people were all nice and helpful.
Bathrooms: B
Big, spacious and clean, a little diffcult to navigate once inside.
Food: A
I had a burger there, it was really good. A lot of beer choices I had a Bud Light, a Miller Light and a Yingling(not sure on the spelling).
Seating: A
Seats were big and spacious, ushers were nice and the view from the third base side, out over the river was really nice.
Progressive/Jacob's Field
Overall: B
I didn't get to see a game here, we just stopped and took the tour on the way to Detroit.
Cleanlyness: A
While we were walking around the park they were powerwashing everything, even the trash cans.
People, Fans: N/A
Again, I wasn't there for a game, just the tour.
Peple, Staff: B
The people we dealt with were all nice, and knew thier stuff, but they were tour guides, they kind of have to.
Bathrooms: N/A
Food: N/A
Seating: N/A
Comerica Park
Overall: B
My seats were in the third deck on the first base side.
Cleanlyness: A
Again, a newer park, it better be pretty clean.
People, Fans: C
Seemed to be more of a casual fan setting, a lot of people there because it was a place to be, not because they're fans of the team.
People, Staff: B
Everyone nice and helpful, even when I was wearing the hat of the opposition.
Bathrooms: B+
Clean, easy in and easy out, everything you can ask for
Food: C-
I didn't have much at this game, but not by choice. The vendors were few and far between. Beer sales started before the game and ran until the end of the seventh, in that time period there were only 2 beer vendors that came by my section... unacceptable.
Seating: A
Was really high up, but the views were great and still seemed close to the action even though I was near the top of the stadium.
Wrigley Field
Overall: A
I have to admit, this is my home park, so I am biased. We sat down the first base line near the right field foul pole.
Cleanlyness: B
For as old as the park is, it's very clean.
People, Fans: A
The seventh inning stretch done right, the fans are always in to the game and generally very aware of the game and thier team.
People, Staff: B
Lots of vendors, lots of ushers, and all unspectacular.
Bathrooms: A
For the volume of traffic that the bathrooms see at Wrigley compared to the other parks, the fact that they are troughs works very well.
Food: A
Ecept for the Bubba burgers, there is nothing special about the food. Extra points for serving Old Style Beer!
Seating: B+
The seats are small and there are pillars in the way, but they know that and have installed televisions all over the place to help out the action.
I feel obligated to mention the tour group that I was with, the people I were great and despite some long bus trips was very well run. If you want to go, I would definatly suggest the tour I went with, www.diamondbaseballtours.com.
