If i was the commish:
I would move Florida to Quebec.
I would move Atlanta to Winnipeg.
I would move Nashville to Hamilton.
Phoenix would no longer exist.
Columbus will no longer exist.
Tampa Bay would no longer exist.
There will only be 27 teams.
Colin Campbell would be fired. The new officiating boss would be fired as well. All the refs will be fired. I will bring in better refs that havent coached in the NHL before. That way they wont revert back to their old way of thinking.
I will change the points system.
There'll only be 2 columns. Wins and losses.
No 3 point games. Just 2 points at stake.
No division winners will be guaranteed a top 3 spot in the standings. The division winners will be guaranteed a play-off spot. Thats it.
The shoot-out will stay. The OT format would stay the same as well. 4 on 4.
Diving will be penalized for the FULL 2 minutes. It cant be both a tripping and a diving call. It will just be a diving call. Every dive the player makes,he will be deducted $20,000 from his salary. 4 dives in one season he gets suspended for 5 consecutive games. If the player dives 6 times,he will suspended for one more game,and so on and so on. Regular season totals will continue into the play-offs.
The trapezoid will be abolished. Goalies will be fair game when they venture out of their crease. Only goalies will be able to fight goalies. Every time there's a fight,the players will take their helmets off first. It will be mandatory to do that.
All sticks would be wooden. The shoulder and elbow pads will be softened. To lessen the concussion cases. There will no longer be ads on the boards . It will be pure white. Any player that gets checked into the other teams bench,has to play for that team for the game. Hhahahaha...jk on that part.
The schedule will be a home and home series with every team. The other 24 games will be spent in their own respective conferences. The Stanley Cup Finalists will play a 3 games against each-other.(to build a rivalry).
The cap will stay at 55 million. Always. The cap floor will always stay at 40 million. The cap max per player will be 9 million. The minimum salary will be 500k.
Any player "stepping" on other players on purpose will be banished for the entire season. Reg and post.
The instigator rule will be abolished. High-sticking causing bleeding,the offending player will be thrown out of the game. Accidental or otherwise.
All players will have micro-mini cameras on their helmets for replay purposes only. All chin straps will be fastened well. Can you imagine a player on a break-a-way and seeing it on replay from a players stand-point? It will be awesome. All of Holmstrom's goals will be reviewed.Hhahahah.jk.
The Stanley Cup champs will play the Russian Champs 2 weeks after the Stanley Cup is won. The regular season will start 3 weeks earlier than normal. Theres no need to go into June to play for the Cup. Pre-season games will be shortened. Only 2 weeks.
Players holding out can only hold out till Dec 30th.Any longer and the player forfeits the season. UFA's will be the same time.:Dec 30th.
If a player retires,the cap # will not be counted if he's still on the pay-roll. If a player is bought out. They are bought out. It doesnt count against the cap. The max years a player can sign on will be for 5 seasons. No more 8-10 year contracts.
All all-star players will have to play. No more sitting at home. Only if injured. All all-stars will be paid a bonus of 200k. The injured ones get nothing.
The Cup finalists will get the #2 and #3 picks in the draft. The worst team will pick 1st.
A Hall Of Shame will be introduced. Mike Milbury will be the 1st person inducted. Hhahahha.jk. Any player that scores 500 goals will get into the Hall Of Fame.
We will get an ESPN deal. We will get a better marketing team in place to market the NHL.
There will be a Selke type trophy for the best defensive d-man. The Lady Byng will be abolished.

Only thing I'd change is getting rid of Nashville, too but I guess you want a team in Hamilton so if that's your pick so be it ( and how about Peterborough )? Might want to pick Columbus now instead since they got Umberger. Ah so, Flyers make big mistake. Are you saying the Norris trophy is really for the D-man that plays best offense? I didn't know that. Lady Byng, hmmmm, I read in that Hull article that his coach ripped into him for winning that......who was Lady Byng anyway????

Report Offensive CommentPeterborough? I hardly know anything about that place. The Norris is not the highest scoring d-man,but being the highest scoring doesnt hurt your case. I dont know who Lady Byng was......the lady byng is for "gentlemanly play".99% of the players would be embarrassed to win that one. Less games played is a good idea.

Gretzsky for a season 'assist leader' trophy doesn't quite work. Sure Gretz was great at that but that underplays the fact that he smashed season GOAL records too (92). It also underplays his other intangibles, playoff sucesss, etc. He was the center of a dynasty. He broke Howe's all-time records.
I think a Gretzsky trophy needs to be up there at the Art Ross/Conn Smyth MVP level.
Something that recoginizes career excellence. Maybe they give it out each year to the guy that has had the best prior DECADE in the NHL. (And they have to pick one new guy each year - no repeat winners). That would be extremely prestigious and it would more properly fit Gretz. Nobody would be even eligible until the meet the minimum 10 yr in the league criteria.

Goalies; With you on the trapezoid. and surprisingly, even on the "fair Game" (as an olde golaie, that's the surprise)
Can't have diving and tripping on the same play, you're right.
Also good call on the division leaders. Maybe they can be guarenteeed A SPOT in the group of 8. As they shouldn't be rewarded for playing in a crappy division, neither should the be penalised. however, if there is an apropriate contraction, there will be less crappy teams

I had suggested the Winter Classic and All Star game be combined, so I agree with the posting.
I think The Lady Byng is important because of what it's supposed to represnt, SPORTSMANSHIP

Yes i agree on the shooting of Clement and Pang. Hopefully shot on the throat. Or just remove the voice box out of their throat. I think that might be better ;)
