With the unexpected news of Donovin Darius being cut, the Jaguars' safety positions have suddenly become a lot clearer. I expect that Gerald Sensabaugh, now a third year pro from the University of North Carolina, will slide into Darius' spot, Strong Safety, while rookie Reggie Nelson from Florida will start at the free safety spot. The Jaguars made this move because they obviously feel that Gerald Sensabaugh can very good in the NFL, and that rookie Reggie Nelson is ready to play. As someone that liked Donovin Darius and what he brought to the Jaguars, I am disappointed by this move, but I think that if the team made this move because they think Reggie Nelson is ready to play, they will be fine without him. Gerald Sensabaugh is a lot better than people think and I think Reggie Nelson should be up to the test. I don't think that this move was made because the Jaguars are a ‘cheap' organization. I think this move was made because they feel that they have younger talent that can be just as good as or better than the old player in a short period of time. One possible reason that I wouldn't like that the Jaguars cut Darius was to get further under the cap, so they would have more money available for Daunte Culpepper, if/when he is cut. If the reason Darius was cut was to free up money for Culpepper, I think the Jaguars made a very big mistake. Byron Leftwich is ready to take the next step as a quarterback and bringing in Culpepper will most likely not give Leftwich that chance. Something to keep in mind when hearing all the rumors about the Jags wanting Culpepper is that General Manager James Harris is a Leftwich fan, so it is possible that the Jaguars are just blowing smoke, though that seems very unlikely at this point. What are your thoughts on Darius's sudden release? Why do you think he was cut?
