If you're a huge basketball fan, I recommend you stop reading right now. Anyone who's been living and breathing for the NBA playoff games the last few months is not going to like what I'm about to say.

FINALLY.

Not "Finally the Celtics won it all after too many years out" or "Finally, they made it through the season, the many, many playoff games, and came out on top." I mean, "Finally, it's over." Maybe not the most popular sentiment in a sports blogging community, but hey, it's gone on for a bit too long.

Before yall start attacking me, hear me out. The playoffs lasted almost as long as the regular season. The Lakers, for example, played 82 regular season games and 21 playoff games. That's another quarter of a season! All together, there were 86 playoff games, more than any one team played during the regular season.

The regular season isn't very long but from what I hear, no one cares about it anyway. The focus is still on college basketball at that point. The problem is the playoffs. And I suppose it's not a problem if you're an NBA junkie, or if you live under a rock and couldn't explain "basketball" to a Martian if your life depended on it. It's not really a problem at all; it's just a bit much.

"Best of Seven?" Ok, I get that everyone wants the championship to go to the team that truly deserves it. No BCS-level controversy here. But seven? Is that really necessary? I say that if you can't prove you're better than your opponent in a "Best 2 out of 3" or even 3 out of 5 set-up, maybe you're not. Rock out in the regular season, make it to playoffs, and then prove you're the best in under 2 months. Shouldn't be too hard and shouldn't take so long! Two weeks for the finals is just too long. In the real world, it's rare for anyone to get up to seven chances to make good. Keep it real, people, short and sweet.

Still think I'm insane and/or a silly girl who Just Doesn't Get It? Let's put things in perspective. EIGHT MONTHS passed between the start of the preseason games in October until last night's finals. That's almost enough time to incubate a baby for a full-term pregnancy and that, my friends, is entirely too long.
