UFC president Dana White's huge announcement, the whopper that was to shock the MMA world, came and went and was met with an, "Eh, I could take it or leave it," amongst fans.

Lorenzo Fertitta is leaving Station Casinos to work full time with the UFC. On the surface this might seem mundane; maybe, maybe not.

Dana previously stated this move would show where the sport was heading in the next five years, and now most people are calling him a liar, a snake oil salesman, for making such a claim...but maybe he's right?

According to the report by Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports, Lorenzo Fertitta's salary at Station Casinos in 2007 was just north of $113 million. Now that ain't bad money! Yet, he's leaving it to work full time with the UFC, a company bought eight years ago for chump change...$2 million, and almost sold a few years back for more find it in the couch cushions money, something like $7 million.

What was once a hobby for Dana White and the Fertitta's (Lorenzo and Frank) has turned into a monster that demands to be fed, and in shoving Lorenzo in its mouth the beast is getting a juicy steak.

Dana White has done an unbelievable job running the UFC, but due to his often crass personality, some think this move is the first step in shuffling him out the door. Maybe this will prove true, but it seems the shift in focus can be taken at face value.

The UFC needs more steak! Dana and the Fertitta's have realized this, and they are going all in so to speak, by bringing Casino goliath Lorenzo on board full time.

The move is huge, it shows where the company brass thinks the UFC and the industry is headed in the near future. It adds legitimacy to the company. It opens the door to further possibilities, and it absolutely does have the potential to rattle the UFC Octagon, and in turn the sport over the next five years.
