Personally I think Anderson Silva moving the light heavy is a good move for him. After all who is he going to fight at middleweight? He has cleaned out the division in UFC. The gap between him and the second best person is so wide right now why not go up. Alot of people are begging for a fight between him and GSP. I don't think that would be a good career move for him because he has everything to lose and nothing to gain by doing this. If he wins then he just beat a guy that he was already bigger than and more likely than not favored to beat. If he loses then maybe he isn't as great as he was thought to be. That equals a no win situation for him. The second best middleweight in UFC is probably either Dan Henderson who Silva beat by 2nd round submission in his last fight, or it's Rich Franklin who he has brutally knocked out twice. The only other real competition out there for him is the WEC champ Paulo Filho which could happen since Zuffa owns both the UFC and WEC, but it is unlikely I think. So we get Silva vs. James Irvin at light heavy in his next fight. This will probably amount to another KO victory for Silva but it will be a test to see how he handles a naturally bigger fighter. Irvin however isn't the greatest competitor out there at light heavy, but he packs a punch so he has a puncher's chance of winning the fight. Silva has nothing to lose in taking this fight. If he wins then he can step up the competition at light heavy and if he loses then he was naturally smaller and therefor, less equiped to take a punch from a light heavy. With no real comp at middleweight it is a calculated risk for the man they call Spider
