One of the great joys of being in Asia for any length of time is seeing how seriously women's team sports are taken by the viewing public. Friday night local time in Hong Kong, ESPN Asia ran a feature on the U.S. women's volleyball team, whose players are now sharpening their skills for the Olympics at the FIVB Grand Prix in Kobe, Japan. Pretty cool to see Danielle Scott-Arruda's stats in a Chinese graphic...and better still to see how much attention this tremendous team is getting here. You can put women's volleyball right up there with table tennis, diving, basketball, and a certain 110-meter hurdles event as the must-have tickets for the Beijing Olympics. Women's volleyball has a huge following in China, and the U.S. team is sure to be a crowd favorite with Jenny Lang Ping, a gold medalist for China in 1984, at the helm as head coach.
