So Thursday night at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto turned out to be Sidney Crosby Night -- and I'm not complaining. The 19-year-old went home with the Hart, Art Ross and the Lester B. Pearson. Crosby became the youngest MVP since a guy named Gretzky. Next step for Sid the Kid: sip from the Stanley Cup.

The other winners weren't much of a surprise, though I felt Roberto Luongo could have edged Marty Brodeur for the Vezina. It's hard to do wrong with either netminder. The other category I felt could've gone differently was Alain Vigneault winning coach honors. He led the Canucks to a franchise-record 49 wins, but what about Minnesota's Jacques Lemaire or Pittsburgh's Michel Therrien?

What do you think about the 2006-07 award winners? Who got left out?

June 14, 2007  11:10 PM ET

Pahlson should get the best offensive-defensive player. He was the catalyst for Annahein.
The Ottawa Russian tank should at least been named for Norris trophey.
I liked Mr. Hockey giving the Hart to Crosby. Howe might not live forever.
Also Beliveau the trophy to Lecavalier. By the way was it the M. Richard throphy he received or something else.

Last news, rumours: Yashin and alexandre Daigle will play on the same line for Ottawa next season. Now you have the second line.

Michel Terrien should've won the Jack Adams. Vigneault did a great job with the Canucks, but what Terrien did with all the young, albeit, young talented players was remarkable. I dont think anyone in the league would've had Pittsburgh challenging New Jersey for the NE crown at the end of the season, let alone 100 points.

Crosby is the NHL right now and winning the Hart and Pearson was as much as a given as him winning the Art Ross.

Brodeur had one more win then Luongo and I believe beat him in the Shutout race 12 - 5. So he def deserved it. Besides, a goalie at 35, having a career year, it had to go to Marty.

I think 10 years from now, we'll look back at these awards and wonder, "How on Earth did Roberto Luongo get the shaft?"

June 15, 2007  12:48 AM ET

Roberto should have won the hart and the vezina. look at what he did for the canucks. without him they were probally a lottery team.

what about the pens without crosby? the best all-around defenseman was ryan whitney. they relied on guys like josef melichar, rob scuderi, alain nasreddine, michel ouellet, erik christensen, and ryan malone game in and game out. before they added roberts, crosby was often playing with recchi and malone. crosby made the team better not just by being the best hockey player in the world, but also by being a tremendous and driven leader. add in the butts that he puts in seats, not just here in pittsburgh where season tickets for next year are already sold out, but in arenas around the league (the only sell out all last season in phoenix was when the pens whooped the coyotes, for example) and it's clear that he's the most important player not just to the Penguins, but to the league as a whole. luongo was fantastic and in a lot of years, he'd have run away with the Hart and Vezina, but Crosby flat out earned the Hart. as for the Vezina, Luongo and Brodeur had virtually identical stats, except that Brodeur posted TWELVE shutouts. Luongo was simply runner up in both categories, despite a fantastic season. He didn't get robbed in either.

Poise is Crosby's main attribute both on and off the ice. I have never seen anyone like it at such a young age. Remember what you were doing when you were 19. Then think for a second that is whe age that he is. It is quite remarkable. I am from Nova Scotia and we are all very proud of Sidney and really believe that he will lead the Penguins to where the Ducks were this year.

Go Pens

BRODEUR ??? THATS A JOKE .........

June 15, 2007  09:05 AM ET

WSBK41 are you brain dead? Brodeur has a career season and was better than Luongo in every sense of the word.

June 15, 2007  09:48 AM ET

In every sense of the word? How many more shots per game did Luongo face? Who had the better defense in front of them. Don't get me wrong, Marty's great, but there is a strong argument to be made that if you switched teams that Brodeur doesn't get 12 shutouts and Luongo gets more than 5.

Lidstrom is the man, enough said.

Crosby has a gift with his hockey talent. However, I have never seen one person complain more than him. For such a talented individual, I believe he will only hurt himself in the future with his complaining non-stop to the referees. Oh yea, being a Philadelphia Flyers die hard fan doesn't help either. I hope he breaks a leg. Derian Hatcher said it best. I respect everyone in the league, but for him.

June 15, 2007  10:18 AM ET

Luongo had ONE shot per game more than Brodeur (28.97 to 27.87). Did I also mention that the EAST has 13 of the top 15 goal scorers in the league??

June 15, 2007  10:19 AM ET

Here's the numbers right here bud.

Roberto Luongo (75GP 46-22-6, 2.28GAA, 92.1 SV% and 5 shutouts)

Martin Brodeur (78GP 48-23-7, 2.18GAA, 92.2SV% and 12 shutouts)

June 15, 2007  10:24 AM ET

In no way am I takin anything away from Luongo (he is amazing), but to say that Brodeur winning it was a joke is just crazy.

June 15, 2007  10:38 AM ET

For "flyerswinthecup:" The fact that Crosby won the Pearson award effectively shows that you do not have a clue. Why would the players of the league overwhelmingly vote to give Crosby that award if he was a whiner? It simply makes no sense.

Derian Hatcher and all the other losers you have skating around in orange sweaters cannot hold a candle to the talent and potential Crosby has. It makes them, and you, jealous. And like politicians failing in the polls, your only option is to name call and throw mud.

As the players of the league demonstrated through the voting on the Pearson: It just ain't working.

June 15, 2007  10:56 AM ET

Crosby does talk a lot, and sometimes rightfully so. But this year he was toned it down a lot compared to last year. The most I saw him really complaining this year was when he got shafted with that imaginary "kick" goal against ottowa...that looked sorta like the kick goal that somehow counted for alfredsson against the ducks..

But regardless, now that he's a captain, he's allowed to talk. The competition for all of these awards was so close that its crazy that anyone can use words like "a joke" to describe the final selections.

June 15, 2007  11:26 AM ET

Being a Pittsburgh fan, I can admit that Crosby did complain a lot until it became a big deal throughout the media. I don't know if maybe somebody, (lemieux or Terrien) might have said something to him, or he just figured it out on his own, but he definetly cut back with the complaining. He sucked up all of the garbage that his critics had said and pushed through and EASILY won all three trophies. To say that you don't respect Crosby is your own opinion, and in my opinion ridiculous no matter where you're from. The kid is amazing and he is the face of his team and the entire league. If you love hockey, you should respect what this kid has brought and will continue to bring to the game. This complaining thing was a phase, something he had to grow through, and while all of you are dwelling on it, he's past it and thinking about taking his team back to the playoffs next year.

How can you call Crosby a winer? Look at Derian Hatcher he is one of the biggest cheap shots in the league. So stop crying flyers fans that you have a crappy team and respect Crosby.

Crosby is the next great one. He is gona lead the PENS to at least three cups.
