This is going to be a very busy off season. Many teams are going to have to step it up. They will need to change their staff or their rosters if they want to become a legitimate title contender or even a playoff contender. Here's a list of the top five teams in my opinion that need to change.

1. Miami Heat: The Heat are one of those teams whDwyane Wade in full form may be able to lead his team to the top againich have alot of talent but something comes in the way. In their case its constant injuries. If Dwyane Wade can return to his usual form and the Heat trade for a post presence they might be back in the postseason hunt. Their current post players Mark Blount and Udonis Haslem are about as powerful as a high schooler. If the Heat draft Michael Beasley they should trade Blount and Haslem for a post player similar to Zach Randolph or Andrew Bogut, who can rebound and score. Then they might have more than 15 wins.

2. New York Knicks: The had the worst disease combo in the NBA last year. They had Isiah Thomas and Stephon Marbury working together. Both people have an arrogance nearly as big as the luxury tax on their team individually. Stephon Marbury is a good player who needs a strong coach, if anything. Isiah Thomas is a useless coach, and although a good point guard in his day, he cannot get along with Marbury, a point guard with a similar attitude as Isiah when he played. Either Eddy Curry or Zach Randolph need to go. Eddy Curry cannot rebound and is turnover prone while Randolph is a below average defender. If David Lee and Nate Robinson continue to improve and become useful starters, the Knicks might be a decent team again.

3. New Jersey Nets: This team was yet another example of supreme talent in Vince Carter Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd yet they were below mediocre this season. They traded Jason Kidd for a superior point guard Devin Harris, who is currently better than an aging injuy-prone Jason Kidd. If Nenad Kristic can return to his old form from 2006-07 the nets will be a force to be reckoned with. Of course Devin Harris will have to continue to play the way he played and Vince and Richard will have to continue to put up high scoring numbers.

4. Minnesotta Timberwolves: This team has the potential to be one of the better teams in the west. If they can keep Al Jefferson and he continues to dominate along with the addition of their #3 draft pick and the ever improving Rashad Mccants and the steady progress of Randy Foye, they will be a much better team. Of course, they will need to think which player to decide, and preferrably a center such as Brook Lopez or Kevin Love.

5. Denver Nuggets: Yes, I know that they had a 50 win season. WHO CARES! The Denver Nuggets arguably have to most talent in the NBA with 2 of the top 4 scorers in the league in Carmello Anthony and Allen Iverson. They have the NBA's leading shot blocker and 2nd highest rebounder in Marcus Camby. Along with that, Allen Iverson is one of the leaders in steals. A team like that should be at the top of the west or nearly at the top. They even have one of the best 6th men in J.R. Smith. I think if they get rid of George Karl and get a decent coach such as Larry Brown or Avery Johnson, they will for once get past the SECOND ROUND!

That is my top 5 pick for the teams that need a change. If you agree with me post on my comments section, or post if you don't agree.

this is too true i agree with the nuggets loaded with talent but cant make it past the secong round My team, the hornets don't have much talent besides CP3 but they killed the mavs and almost beat the spurs. i never understood why avery johnson was fired.

I agree with you on 1, 2 and 3 but 4 and 5 are a stretch.

I would have went with the Bobcats and the Mavericks. I think they need a change more than the T-Wolves or Nuggets. Even the Pacers need more help. But the first three are solid!

even if the pacers did something like what boston did last year, they would STILL need help the pacers are a mess

All of those suggestions are terrible. Love is never going to be an NBA center. He's pushing it as a 4 too.
Brown is already hired by Charlotte. So much for that.

Every team in the league will be looking to improve. Even Boston.
Miami needs a major Celtic like move that will get them Baron Davis and Brand, both free agents. They do this and they will be next years Boston

Good blog and good choices. My only thing is that the Heat should keep Haslem. He's someone who would be a great backup. He's good on the boards too. They could use a defensive and offensive player in the post. They could get Beasley and team him with a defensive minded center and then bring Haslem off the bench to play either PF or C.

This is the top five because these teams are, or can be, relevant.

A comment or two on your assessments:

Miami...talent? Wade is a stud. Haslem and Marion are talented, clueless. The rest of the team is nameless, faceless.

New York Knicks. Good take.

New Jersey. "A force to be reckoned with" is a major overstatement. This is an overhaul. Don't salvage the parts. I like Vince and Jefferson. Let them do their gigs as third wheels on contenders. Get something for them. Harris is a nice PG, good enough to get it done with a legitimate star or two in place. This team has to start over.

Minnesota. No chance to become a force in the west. Too steep for the braintrust. But they have some pieces to work with if they could be put in the right hands. You are right about one thing. They belong on this list.

Great call on the Nuggets. Team disfunction.

But I don't know how the Clippers and the Sonics don't get on this list. Were they dishonorable mention?
