Ok here's a spot to discuss the draft, the trades, and whatever you think is going to go down this weekend.
June 21, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Congrats Baun...you guys got the guy you were after. All in all I think this is one of the best crops of picks to come along in a lonnnnnnnng time

June 21, 2008  11:24 AM ET

By drafting Schenn and trading for Mayers, the Leafs look to be changing the face of this team to one that is going to be pretty tough and gritty with size. It will be interesting to see what happens between now and July 1 with the F/A's and the Eggs decision. I think the Leafs want the Sundin question answered so they can move on to other issues.
I am also interested to see what Ron Wilson will do with Pony and Nick Andropov...Hopefully Coliacavo can stay healthy this year.

June 21, 2008  11:34 AM ET

As far as the Sens...they drafted another Euro and have an interest in the Sedins...They keep this up and they don't make the playoffs...way too soft.
Stamko's will need a lot of help before Tampa gets competitive again. I like Stamkos but he is not in the same class as O.V or Crosby.
The L.A Kings are looking to have a leg up of the bottom feeders from last year to making the most progress this season.
As much as I like the Trade up Cliff made, I can't figure out why the NYI agreed to it. I think there will be more to come between the Islanders and the Leafs before all is said and done...
The Coyote's just got a whole lot better and the Panthers a whole lot worse.
So far...the Wings have stayed with the status quo...but I would think they will make some moves to bolster some positions before the season starts.
The Habs are making some interesting moves too. Tanguay and possibly Sundin...?
We'll have to wait and see.

June 21, 2008  11:46 AM ET

There weren't really any suprises in the first round...number of trades etc; were about what you would figure. I think my Wings taking a goalie was what I expected. They're going to try Howard as a backup next year I think.
One of the changes I'd have made if I was Chicago ...was taking Colborne instead of Beach....I got a feeling Beach is going to be a problem for them. He's going to be an off ice issue and a distraction...(just a feeling)...and Colborne is gonna be HUGE when he fills out

June 21, 2008  12:17 PM ET

I'm still looking at the Kings to make a move. That pick could go to the Pens with some added talent or picks to get Malkin.
If Ottawa picks up the Sedins they're finished...those two aren't made to play in the East.
Stamkos is going to be an impact player but not for a couple years...they need to bring him along and not just pop him into the fight
Coyotes make the playoffs next year and the Panthers get first pick overall in the '09 draft
Bogosian is a waste in Atlanta..they're going nowhere..look for him to play a couple years for them if that and then move on

June 21, 2008  03:25 PM ET

Leafs are clearly showing how they want their future teams to look. The just drafted another huge forward in 6'5" winger Jimmy Hayes. He has good foot speed, rugged and good hands.
The ACC will no longer be a picnic for visitors in the future. Big tough and rugged North Americans with a savvy coach...just warming things up for Burke to arrive. I swear he could just as well be pulling the strings now if you look how the Leafs are drafting big strong players.
BGM...do not even attempt to get inside the EGG'S head. He is a prick. Period and none to bright.

June 21, 2008  03:47 PM ET

First of all BGM...I was experimenting with Avatars...as far as a ripped guy...That guy was Bobby Hull.

June 21, 2008  03:53 PM ET

You see BGM...Hull had this little deformity...he had legs growing out where his arms were supposed to be...You might also want to make note of the fact...He never lifted a weight in his life. That happens to be a true fact!
The guy just wasn't normal.

June 21, 2008  03:54 PM ET

BENTLEY AND I ARE VERY PLEASED TODAY!

June 21, 2008  03:58 PM ET

How the Hell did BGM find his way in here in the first place?
He normally couldn't find his mouse without a Kraft slice.

June 21, 2008  04:26 PM ET

IF they were to sign Sundin..........damn!! i'd be speechless.
--------------------------
For this reason alone...it would be worth it.

June 21, 2008  04:30 PM ET

Too many Euro's on the Habs. The Sens too.
I recently found out that these Euro guys prefer to squat to pee...Enough said.

June 21, 2008  09:26 PM ET

I think once Colborne fills out he's going to be a good pick up for you BGM. That size and put on some bulk and he'll be an animal

June 22, 2008  07:49 AM ET

Trading away Umberger in Philly...Thoughts.
The Flyers should have found a way to keep him. I think he will be missed there. Great roll player and clutch performer.

June 22, 2008  07:54 AM ET

By aquiring Umberger and flying him to Columbus, the Blue Jackets have essentially placed an order in Philly for....

"An Umberger and Flies to go."

that was pretty good...now as to Philly...that was stupid to let him go. This guy is not a star player but he gave them great minutes in the playoffs as well as the regular season. This is the equivilant of the Wings getting rid of Draper. Dumb move on Philly's part

June 22, 2008  10:21 AM ET

You certainly have to have more than just stars to augment your line-up MH. That's one reason I like the trade the Leafs made to get Mayers. If BGM knew more about Mayers...he wouldn't think it was such a bad deal. I like it. This guy is steady and tough and not stupid tough. He has grit and is consistant and brings leadership. He also augmented the World Cup teams the last two years...surely even BGM should see the value in that!

June 22, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Silver and Gold medals for Canada the last 2 years BGM...yeah...some knuckle dragger that Mayers is huh? 12 years with the same team and not being traded. I wonder why.
Note...That says...TEAM CANADA, BGM.
But maybe the Canadian team didn't have many guys to choose from for their team eh?
And it cost Cliff what...the leafs gave up a 70th overall draft pick. Some guy that may never see the light of the NHL.

June 22, 2008  10:36 AM ET

I think the Mayers deal was a good one for the Leafs too...I know I'll be glad that the Wings won't see him every time they play the Blues. What do you think of the Tanguay move to the Habs? He had an off year last year but I think he may be better adapted to the Habs game than that of the Flames. Look for him to do well there

June 22, 2008  10:47 AM ET
