The Pistons are talking about trading some starters for stars and most recently tried for Carmelo Anthony.  Denver rejected a trade offer of Tayshaun Prince and Chauncey Billups for Carmelo Anthony - the Pistons can't do much better than that.  Plus, Carmelo has contacted the team president and implied that he did not want to get traded.  Go figure.

The Pistons had a chance to get Carmelo in the first place.  They would probably sitting on top of the world as champions right now if they used their No. 2 pick in the 2003 Draft on Anthony instead of Darko Milicic who is considered by some, the biggest bust in the history of drafts.  Just our luck, Detroit has hardly any good picks since the new decade started.  A look:

2000 - The Pistons took hometown hero Mateen Cleaves out of Michigan State this year.  Cleaves was a great college player but couldn't cut it in the NBA and didn't even last at least five years.  Terrible Pick.

Passed on Morris Peterson, Quentin Richardson, Michael Redd

2001 - The Pistons took Rodney White, a career0long bench warmer and is now playing in a foreign basketball league.  Bad Pick.

Passed on Joe Johnson, Richard Jefferson, Gilbert Arenas, Tony Parker

2002 - The Pistons took Tayshaun Prince who didn't turn out to be a bad pick.  Good defender with some offense, thinning draft board so a good overrall pick.  Good Pick.

Passed on Carlos Boozer, Luis Scola

2003 - The Pistons took Darko Milicic, a journyman who is going from team-to-team looking for a spot.  Terrible Pick.

Passed on Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Udonis Haslem, Chris Bosh, Chris Kaman

2004 - TRADED FIRST ROUND PICK

Passed on Tony Allen, Kevin Martin, Sasha Vujacic

2005 - The Pistons took Jason Maxiell, not a bad pick.  Maciell is a very good power forward but the Pistons didn't have much of a need at big man when they got him.  Average Pick.

Passed on Monta Ellis, David Lee, Ronny Turiaf

2006 - TRADED FIRST ROUND PICK

Passed on Leon Powe, Daniel Gibson

2007 - The Pistons took Rodney Stuckey.  Too early to judge this pick but it looks good.

Stuckey brings me to my next point, get rid of Chauncey Billups.  Stuckey showed promise as a leader, a scorer and a passer in his first year in the NBA.  The Pistons need to get rid of Chauncey and give him minutes.  Detroit wants Stuckey to play 30 minutes per game next year.  Tracy McGrady is available, why not try him?

Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups for T-Mac?  Sounds like a good deal.  Amir Johnson and Jason Maxiell can rotate at the Power Forward spot.  The Pistons need to make some moves with all of this young talent.

Okay, that ends it.  Thanks for reading.
