Women's professional basketball is still taking back seat to College Women's basketball and even international women's basketball. NBA has done the WNBA disservice by not tying it in more with men's NBA. WNBA has it's own marketing dept. Why not put that NBA marketing machine behind the WNBA?

The Marketing so has been poor. How many times have you learned, after the fact, that a WNBA game was on? WNBA is trying too hard to sell the women on basketball their skills only. I've played basketball with some women college players and I can tell you first hand, some of them are really good. Pure jumpers and talk more trash than Sam Cassell. But, there too many stereo types of women's basketball to get public interest on just basketball. Why not let the women be women and attract male fans that way? You can't cater to just women fans. In order to put butts in the seats and get that advertising money. WNBA should let the more attractive and talented players be the face of the WNBA. I'm not trying to get all Don Imus on you. I am just stating facts. Image sells. WNBA players don't have to be overtly trying to sell sex in order to be seen as sexy, believe it or not, some of the players off of the court are fairly attractive. All they have to do is get some of that NBA marketing machine behind them and do tastefull but sexy ads. Get men in the seat, and the women will come.

Before you claim I am sexist, look at women's tennis. Why is women's tennis more popular than men's tennis? I'll tell you. I would rather watch two inshape women in mini skirts, competing, and those women in Pro tennis compete hard. Anna Kornikova puts men in the seats and then the product the competition gets the men going. So why does the WNBA try to make the women's uni look like men's with the extra baggy clothes? Maybe make the shorts shorter something. All I am saying is don't shy away from the difference between women and men's basketball, embrace it.

Once you get the fans butts in the seats they will see what a great product the WNBA has. Women are competative, they throw elbows. They compete and they are getting better. I promise you WNBA players are better than College players and as the game grows the players get better. Check video of Candice Parker dunking:
