In the league I play in, which is Gridiron Challenge on ESPN.com, you have two tightends to play on your weekly roster. One guy to keep your eye on who may be under the radar based on how he has previously been used is Vernon Davis of the San Francisco 49ers.

Vernon is going to greatly benefit from the new offensive coach the Niners got in Mike Martz. Martz was the braintrust behind the "Greatest Show on Turf" offenses of the Rams Superbowl winning teams. Vernon has been watching films of those Rams offenses and has been told by his coach to emulate the pass routes that Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce ran, which only a guy with Vernon Davis' speed could pull off.

Previously in the past two years, Vernon has been used mostly as a blocking tightend for running back Frank Gore or on pass protection. Last year he had a respectable 52 catches for 509 yards, but there were stretches of games where he wasnt used and that will kill your fantasy team to take 0 points for any player in your starting lineup.

What will also help Vernon as that across from him the 49ers have another speedy tightend and former wide receiver, Delanie Walker, so they cant just shadow Vernon with a double team.

If you guys have any thoughts about Vernon Davis, or even the tight end position in general, please leave a comment.
