Great season? Well I guess it depends on who you were rooting for. I was rooting for Boston in the Finals, so all in all I am not too disappointed. None of my favorite squads have won a title in a long time. 76ers won a title 1983. I was too young to get any joy out of that. So this year is kind of like every other year, you pick the team you hate the least in the finals and go with it. Prior to this season, many Boston Celtic fans knew how I felt (except for that whole 16 titles thing). But this year Boston got over the hump, so Congrats. Being an Atlantic division rival it was kind of bittersweet and hard for me to root for Boston, but like I said, pick the team you hate the least and root for them.
As far as the Lakers go, as much as I don't like the team, or Phil Jackson, or Kobe Bryant, or Lamar Odom, I give credit where credit is due. Mitch Kupchak committed grand theft and STOLE Pau Gosal! ****! Let me calm down. Anyway, before the season started, Kobe, and most LA Fans, where screaming for this guy's dismissal. He was inundated with insults. My personal favorite from Laker "fans" - Mitch Cupcake. Mitch gave everyone else the middle finger after this and Kobe might have wound up Kissing his feet had they beat Boston. Close but no cigar. Congratulations anyway LA. As far as I am concerned, this year was the best I have ever seen Kobe Bryant and the Lakers play. Impeccable passing, functional defense and classic run and gun LA basketball. To those that pay attention, Phil Jackson is more than just a triangle.Doc Rivers laid the blueprint for how the rest of the league should play LA defensively. Let’s see what happens next year.
As far as my teams go, it was another disappointing season for Dallas, Denver, and Philly stumbled into the playoffs with horrible offense and functional defense. In Philly's case not having a star to generate Offense killed them against Detroit (who was nervous for a minute). Philadelphia was never really a threat to Detroit in the end, because when there was no fast break there was no offense. Let's face it. I only started liking Denver because I am rooting for AI to get a ring. I've watched Allen Iverson carry those bums in Philadelphia his whole career and what happens when he finally gets in a team with offensive potency? They don't play defense. I mean none. How can anyone justify George Karl's pay check?
Dallas Mavericks used Avery Johnson as a scapegoat for Donnie Nelson’s poor decision. Gave up crazy quick, smart, young, talent in Devin Harris for guy who played like the Geezer he was Jason Kidd. That's like trading Barack Obama for John McCain. Leave it to TX (red state) to pull the trigger on that trade. John McCain is so old even his trophy wife is in her 50's. Jason Kidd phoned it in all year. No where was it more evident than in the playoffs where younger Chris Paul made Jason Kidd look like a B**ch. Everybody thought all Jason Kidd needed was a change of scenery. Turns out he needed a dress.
Random thoughts, congrats to Atlanta for making it to the playoffs and having an impact. You need to keep Josh Smith or let us have him in Denver or Dallas. Josh Smith needs to be traded, he was revealed as a pretender this season. Marcus Camby needs to be traded. As far as I'm concerned, if you can't guard your own man, then you are not that great a defender. Lamar Odom is not the reason LA lost he just needs a smaller road. LA fans are making a mistake press are making a mistake by overlooking how easy it was for Rondo to get anywhere he wanted on the floor. If Rondo works on his Jumper this year and shoots with confidence he has the potential to be elite. In retrospect, Phoenix dealing Matrix for Shaq was disastrous. NY must buyout Marbury if they can't move him on draft day and Cleveland needs to get Lebron some help. Philly should move Andre Miller and San Antonio should probably get young off the bench.
That's my 2 cents. After the draft no more NBA that sucks! I get mild entertainment from WNBA I just wish they would put more advertisement on when the games come on.
See you next year!
