Alright, I'm pumped this is my first blog in FanNation's Greatest College Football Fans. So, while I'm working on compiling my conference previews and researching teams that I don't necessarily get much of a chance to see I thought I'd give you this. I was thinking today whose the best recruiter in all of college football. The easy answer would be Pete Caroll or Urban Meyer. But, I'm not going to choose either of those guys.
The reason why I'm not going to choose guys like Pete Caroll or Urban Meyer because those guys have the easiest job in the world. I hate when people say that Pete Caroll's the best recruiter in all of college football. And honestly they have proof to back it up..they have all of the incredibly high ranked recruiting classes of Pete Caroll or Urban Meyer. But, look at where they're recruting...you'd have to be an idiot not to get to top level players to Florida or USC.
So, then who are the best recruiters in all of college football? I think that the best recruiters are guys who can bring in top level talent and not be in the best recruit friendly area. So, this brings up a few names at least to me..and one of them is going to be very homerish. But, one of the names that first pops in my head is Jim Tressel. I know I know Ohio is a very rich high school football state but, the way that he can bring in pretty good out of state talent. But, some other names that I think about as good recruiters are guys like Les Miles, Mark Richt, Bob Stoops and the one that's incredibly homerish is Bret Bielema also the last name I'd like to mention is Ron Zook. Now, what do all of these coaches have in common? Well, they're all in areas that in my opinion are tougher to bring kids into.
Now, I'm not saying that places like Baton Rouge or Athens, Georgia aren't nice places because I'm sure they are. But, they're no Los Angeles..or they're not the campuses of USC or Florida. The coaches that I mentioned are all guys who do solid jobs of recruiting and don't have the locations that a SC or that a Florida has. I just think that the coaches that I mentioned last paragraph are guys who do a solid job of recruiting without the benefit of beingin a place where it's easy to attract big time players.
What are your thoughts about the best recruiters in college football?

The best recruiter is and Iam going out on a limb here a tie between Mack Brown and Pete Carroll. Everyone knows about Carroll, but Brown because he is underrated and always brings in talent that people don't expect, granted he loses a ton of players to Bob Stoops, but I feel he is an exceptional recruiter next would be the Zooker, Stoops, Meyer, and Jim Tressel, but Tressel doesn't necessarily get the highly rated class, he gets the class that in 3 years everyone looks back and thinks how good it was, because he signs so many 3* recruits that turn into stars.
On a side note me and you are matched up in the throwdown tourney so you are supposed to pick the topic, so what is it?

scarletbuckeye..I would agree with you about Mack Brown I completely forgot about him. I put Tressel on that list for just that reason..I was basing all of this on not necessarily the classes immediate impact but, there overall impact during that tenures in that program.

nice first blog for the group badgerfan, I like this one. I personally think for the upcoming season it was Pelini. A lot of recruits left after Callahan was fired, but Pelini got a few better guys and they still got a Top 25 recruiting class

Good blog badgerfan, I agree. Maybe Rich Rodriguez, because not many talented players came to West Virginia when they were unsuccessful, yet he managed to get Pat White, Steve Slaton, and Noel Devine.

Thanks Mike4redxos and Undefeated.
Mike4redsox..I'm going to wait and hold judgment on Bo Pelini...I'm going to give him time to have a few recruiting classes and see what he does. But, you're right I do think Pelini will be one of the guys to make it on the list in a couple of years.
Undefeated...Rich Rodriguez was a guy who completely slipped my mind. He's had some great classes at West Virginia and was in a pretty tough place to recruit.

Greg Schiano seems like he is starting or already has become a force in the recruiting department.
