everybody is focused on the fact that Marbury is in his last year, and you need an up tempo PG to lead this team to scoring. How about this. This team played no defense last year, and lost 59 games! The root of defense, starts at the C position altering or blocking shots and grabbing rebounds. I looked up last years stats for the entire year and they were something like this.
Eddy Curry : blocked 29 shots all season! averaged 4.7 rebounds.
Zach Randolph: Blocked 16 shots all year. was a good rebounder with around 10 a game.
David Lee: Blocked 29 shots all season. Good rebounding at 8.9 a game
Jared Jeffries: 23 Blocked shots all season
Quentin Richardson: This guy should be playing SG, but had as many blocks as Zach Randolph and averaged more rebounds than Eddy Curry.
How can you be looking for a PG in a draft when you can't rebound from your center position, or block a shot with your entire team???? Offense sells tickets, defense wins games
Now for comparison, lets just look at a pretty good centers stats. Patrick Ewing in his prime blocked 327 shots in 1989. This was the abberation because the next two years in 1990-1991 he only averaged 250 blks a season.
PATRICK EWING blocks 250 or more shots for three straight years, THE ENTIRE KNICKS team blocks 213 in 2007 season?
Again I ask, how is it that PG is more important than C? The knicks should take a pg with the 6th pick I agree. However, they need to also find a way to take a CENTER, in this center deep draft. I looked on draft express and checked the averages for rebounding and shotblocking both of all centers in the nation. This is what I found.
Javelle Mcgee: per 40 minutes averages: 20 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 4 blks a game.
Robin Lopez: per 40 minutes averages: 17.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks
Roy Hibbert: per 40 minutes averages: 21.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks
Brook Lopez: per 40 minutes averages: 25.9 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks
Deandre Jordan: per 40 minutes averages: 16.2 points, 12 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks
Now lets run these 5 guys against Eddy Curry for 1 season and they'd be getting around 6 more rebounds a game than him, and 210 more blks a season than Eddy. How can you not look at taking one of these centers in the draft, especially when you can get one in the middle of the first round??? I'm gonna go out and say I don't give a damn who the Knicks get at pick 6, be it OJ, Russell, etc. But you better find a way to trade back into the first round for Robbin, or Deandre, because all though the flashy pick will be the PG, the CENTER is where its at. So lets play some defense in 08.
