The New Jersey Nets and Milwaukee Bucks have come to terms on a proposed deal that would send Richard Jefferso to Milwaukee for forwards Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons.
This trade would clear up over $10 million in the future for a team that's goal is to get under the cap at the 2009 offseason. Bobby Simmons has 2 years left on his $9.28 million contract.
This will be a great move for Yi, considering he has wanted to play for a large market organization since he entered the league with Milwaukee.
This Bucks team could be a playoff contender with a new coach in Scott Skiles and a veteran star to fill a need position at the SF.
Of course, New Jersey isn't looking to contend right away, and right now, it looks like a player like Danilo Gallinari or Joe Alexander could be New Jersey's pick at No. 10.
As for the Bucks, they now have a very talented starting five with Mo Williams, Micheal Redd, Richard Jefferson, Charlie Villanueva, and Andrew Bogut. Their only problem now is their depth up front.
Overall, this trade will improve the Bucks now, and the Nets in the future.

Eh, I don't find this trade all that intriguing. Jefferson's not a great scorer when he's not on the break, and nobody else on this team runs much, so this was another front office blunder by the Bucks. Also, why would they give up on Yi so early?

Report Offensive CommentI love this trade! I really don't like Yi and I want him out of Milwaukee. Plus, Simmons hasn't done anything for me. Now with Richard Jefferson, this helps out the Bucks and he is a good addition.
Yi didn't help out the Bucks much, and he wouldn't resign with the Bucks anyway, so why not trade him.
Good trade by the Bucks, good blog by Denis.

Report Offensive CommentHemo, Yi didn't even want to be in the Milwaukee in the beginning, and he most likely won't resign with the Bucks when his contract is over.

Report Offensive CommentGood trade. Not great because I don't see Jefferson as a star.

Report Offensive CommentI'm surprised Jefferson was dealt before Carter was.
Either way, this is obviously the first step of a rebuilding period for the Nets. They actually have some good pieces in Devin Harris, Marcus Williams, Josh Boone, Nenad Krstic and now Yi.

Report Offensive CommentBad trade for Milwaukee. Good for NJ. Bucks won't be a play-off team and Gallinari will be long gone before #10 and he will better better than all of these players.

Report Offensive CommentWow this is an interesting trade. I like the move a lot. I think this sets up a busy next few days for the Bucks..look for either Mo Williams or Michael Redd to be moved tonight maybe..ya never know. John Hammond made an excellent deal....great move to hopefully help Scott Skiles in the rebuilding process. We finally got another guy who drive to the basket and draw some fouls. As for getting rid of Yi..great move he never really wanted to be in Milwaukee in the first place and Bobby Simmons never lived up to his contract.

Report Offensive Commentyi wont be a gamechanger for at least 3-4 years.....which coincides with the end of his rookie contract and built in options.......he would leave anyway....im still positive he will go to the west coast regardless. simmons was not worth the $$$$.
anyone know whats left on jefferson's contract?
also the bucks have been heavy on joe alexander from west virginia, would this change their thinking?

Report Offensive CommentNot so sure Yi will go West Coast. Yi's contention was that he wanted to stay near the Chinese community. Well, NYC has one LARGE Chinatown just across the bridge. Plus, if the arena ever gets built in Brooklyn, we (Brooklyn) have a growing Chinatown as well. He may just stay here for those reasons.

Report Offensive CommentGood blog, Denis. It just makes me think of how my mock draft will be looking worse and worse as the draft approaches. Oh well, at least these trades keep it interesting.

Report Offensive CommentSeems like more of a good move for the Bucks than the Nets. I'm not sold on Yi ever being anything more than an average player.

Report Offensive Commentcould be jhova, forgot about the brooklyn thing....wonder if yi will be used as a bargaining chip for that very reason

Report Offensive CommentYi traded after one year. Me thinks the Bucks are admitting a mistake a little to early. Jefferson is a good player but I think if the Nets unload Carter, they will have done a good job getting value for a team of guys that couldn't win them many games last year.

Report Offensive CommentThe Nets just want money to go after Lebron. But Lebron won't want to go to NJ now that Kidd is gone.
