This is a new weekly blog I will have for this group. It will take a look at a coach whose team is in the Top 25. It will talk about his personal life, his past experience, and how his team will do this year. This will totally be at random.

The First coach will be...

Bronco Mendenhall, BYU Cougars

BYU CoachBronco was born on February 21, 1966 to Paul and Lenore Mendenhall. He was born in Alpine, Utah, but spent most of his childhood in American Fork, Utah. Bronco practices the religion of Mormons. His wife Holly, and him married in 1997 and have 3 sons; Cutter, Breaker, and Raeder. Mendenhall attended American Fork HS, then went on to attend Oregon State University where he played football. He majored in Physical Education and mastered Exercise Physiology. He started his coaching experience in 1991 as a defensive coordinator at Snow College.

Bronco went on to coordinate the defense at 4 different universities: Northern Arizona, Oregon State, New Mexico, and BYU. He also was the assistant coach at Louisiana Tech. In 2005, Bronco was named the head coach at Brigham Young. During his 3 years, Mendenhall's squads has posted a 28-10 record. They also have been invited to the Las Vegas Bowl in all three of those years, beating UCLA and Oregon, and falling to California by 7 points. They've climbed all the way to #14 in the National Rankings. BYU has won 2 conference titles and posted a 21-3 in the Mountain West since Mendenhall's arrival.

The Cougars are a highly touted team going into the '08 season. They're ranked #14th nationally in the preseason poll and Max Hall is a very underrated QB for their team. BYU has a tough schedule ahead of them, and one of their major goals is to be invited to a BCS bowl. They play two Pac-10 teams in nonconference play, @ Washington, and UCLA in Provo.  But their toughest matchups come in conference play where they have Utah, TCU, and Colorado State all slated on the road. I predict the Cougars to go 11-1 and only lose one game to the TCU Horned Frogs in midseason. I expect them to be invited to a BCS bowl and possibly win that game depending on their opponent.

Well, that's about it for this time. Next week I'll be looking at another coach inside the Top 25 Rankings
