SEC East:

Team Overview:
Last season Georgia had a legitimate claim for the national title, and ended the season along with USC among the hottest teams in the nation. They return QB Matt Stafford, after throwing for 19 TD's and 10 picks, with close to 60% accuracy, but he improved drastically from his first season as a starter to year 2. Now some are calling him a dark horse heisman candidate, but that is a stretch, he is good and should improve in year 3 as a starter, but he is not a Heisman caliber QB. At RB this team does have a true Heisman candidate in RB Knowshon Moreno, who had over 1,300 yards rushing and 14 TD's a season ago, with the majority of both in the 2nd half of the season. Moreno would be the Heisman favorite, but Mark Richt loves to use 2 backs and will this season with Redshirt Freshman RB Caleb King, who was the star of the spring and really showed great speed and burst. The WR core is the weakness of the team, but is not in bad shape. Last year Mohamed Massaquoi had over 600 yards a season ago, and as the true #1 WR that should improve. True Freshman AJ Green and Tavvarres King should both contribute significantly at WR especially Green a 5* recruit who has incredible skills as a Wideout. TE Tripp Chandler is a solid prospect and will be a good safety valve for Stafford. The "O" line should be solid after a good season a year ago. Left tackle Trinton Sturdivant has proven himself as a top tackle and a perfect player to protect Matt Stafford's blind side. A pair of freshman starters return in the middle of the line in center Chris Davis, and Clint Boling. The "D" line is very good especially in the middle with a pair of all-SEC DT's in Jeff Owens and Geno Atkins. The ends are both new, but Roderick Battle has had experience before, so he should be solid. THe LB's return intact led by middle backer Dannell Ellerbee, who had 93 tackles a year ago and is the leader of the defense. Outside line backer Ronnie Curran is also a very good player so he should be fine. The secondary will also be solid. They return 3 starters and their star Cover Corner, Asher Allen, who had 67 tackles a season ago showing just how good he is as a tackler. Allen will be an all-SEC player at the end of the season and the other corner spot will be filled by the steady Prince Miller. The safeties will be CJ Byrd a returning starter and a playmaker in the secondary and the big hitting sophomore Reshad Jones will take the other safety spot. Though Jones did not start a season ago he is a great athlete and played plenty a season ago.

Team Overview:
The Gators ended the season on a surprising note getting upset by Michigan in te Capital One Bowl. The Gators return reining Heisman winner Tim Tebow at QB. Tebow had over 3,000 yards passing and nearly 900 yards rushing. The real eye-popping number was 55 TD's on the season. Expect those numbers to dip this season as coach Urban Meyer has said that Tebow will not carry the ball as much this season. The key to Florida's success will be the play of a deep RB stable. The leader is USC transfer Emmanuel Moody who as a freshman at USC looked very impressive before transferring, to the Gators. The job won't be his easily though. Redshirt Frosh Chris Rainey may wrestle the job away from Moody or at least split carries after a great spring where he ran a 4.27 40 and was the star of the spring game. The other back in the race is last season's starter Kehstan Moore, though Moore was not real impressive a season ago. Wr Percy Harvin should continue to get plenty of carries after a season ago he had over 700 yards rushing. Harvin is also the top WR on the team he had over 800 yards receiving a season ago. Harvin in fact had 1,600+ yards a season ago. Louis Murphy was a solid #3 wideout a season ago and should have a big season as the #2 WR. The other great player is TE Cornelius Ingram who had 7 TD's a season ago, watch out at 6-4 223 he may seem small but has great strength to make plays in the Red Zone. The "O" line returns 4 starters highlighted by tackle Phil Trautwein and guard Jim Tartt both 3 year starters for the Gators. The line will be key, especially for keeping Tebow healthy and not all bruised and beaten. The "D" line lost plenty of talent especially top 10 pick DE Derrick Harvey, but filling for him is super athlete Carlos Dunlap who is 6-6 290 yet has the speed of a safety. Expect him to turn into a star this season and a household name, The middle is the key for this team. DT Torrey Davis should be the leader and he has plenty of talent, and John Brown is also very talented, but he may be academically ineligible this season. The LB core is very, very good highlighted by a great player who flies all over the field ILB Brandon Spikes who was 1st team all SEC and had well over 100 tackles. Dustin Doe is also a good LB and should be another all-SEC candidate. The secondary is young, but returns 3 starters. A pair of Freshman starters back from a season ago return in Joe Haden who was developing into a lockdown corner near the end of the season and should be a key to success for this team. The other starter is Major Wright who showed great ability to get all over the field and make plays. I expect him to become a star this season.

Team Overview:
The Volunteers had a solid 10 win season a year ago, but fans appear to be getting restless. It has been a while since Tennessee won the SEC and there have been rumors that unless Fulmer steps it up he will be given 1 more season and he is gone if he doesn't produce. Simply to me that is crazy. Fulmer is one of the most underrated coaches in the NCAA and he deserves to stay. Well the big splash this season was hiring offensive coordinator Dave Clawson from Richmond where he had good success. Clawson will change this team's offensive philosophy from more of a west coast look to a more wide open spread look with lot's of motion and mixing in some running. Tennessee is absolutely loaded on offense the only spot where they do not have great skill is QB. Johnathon Crompton has experience, but more importantly has the perfect mobility and pocket Presence to be a perfect fit in Clawson's system. At RB Arian Foster returns after running for over 1,000 yards and catching nearly 40 passes. He is the complete back and may be the second best back in the SEC after Knowshon Moreno. Montario Hartesty is a good backup and should get significant carries this season. At WR this team is loaded. Lucas Taylor is back after getting over 70 catches and a pair of wideouts who had 50+ receptions in Josh Briscoe and Austin Rodgers are also back. The sleeper is sophomore playmaker Gerald Jones. Jones has a ton of talent and will be used similar to Percy Harvin running, receiving, and possibly even returning kicks and punts. The TE Jeff Cottam returns and is a perfect Red Zone target at 6-8. The "O" line is stacked. A season ago they were the best in the country allowing only 5 sacks despite passing over 500 times a season ago. The line will be led by center Josh McNeil and guard Anthony Parker, bot all-american candidates. The "D" line is the weakness of this team. DT's Demonte Bolden, and Dan Williams are back and primed for good seasons, but neither is anything special. The ends will both be new though Wes Brown has experience as a reserve. The LB corps took a big hit with the loss of star Jerod Mayo, but Rico McCoy is back and is one of the top LB's in the SEC, he was vastly underrated last season. The secondary will be the strength of this team. Safety Eric Berry is back after a huge season as a freshman and may be the top secondary player in the SEC. The other safety will be Demitrice Morley a talented safety who would have starter a year ago if not for being suspended. The CB's are both back though neither are anything special. Brett Vinson has the potential to be a star and showed a year ago, so he will be the leader of the two corners.

Team Overview:
Steve Spurrier has been unable to work his magic for South Carolina, but if the Gamecocks can't make a bowl this season expect the calls for Spurrier's job to come. This team has a QB battle on their hands Frosh Stphan Garcia was expected to be the starter, but was suspended and it appears he will return before the season, but he may get to far behind Chris Smelley, his challenger to come back. Smelley started 7 games a season ago and was 4-3. He is a prototypical pocket passer. The RB situation is a bit unsettled. It appears that veteran RB Mike Davis will be the starter. He has plenty of experience in his career, as a backup though. The WR core is solid behind Kenny McKinly who had 77 receptions a year ago. He is one of the top WR's in the country and should continue to break records. Dion Lecorn is back after an impressive Freshman campaign in which he had 3 TD's. Expect a big season as the #2 wideout for this team. The "O" line is the weakness of this team. A year ago they gave up 30+ sacks and allowed their QB's to constantly get hit. 4 starters return led by huge 6-7 guard Heath Batchelor. The "D" line will be decent, but led by speedy DE Cliff Matthews as the key pass rusher. The LB corps will be loaded returning all it's starters. At OLB Eric Norwood is moving from DE to OLB. A season ago he had 19.5 tackles for loss and is one of the top players in the SEC. AT ILB Jasper Brinkley is back and healthy after his knee problems a season ago. Brinkley is another all SEC talent. The secondary is very talented also. Safety Emanuel Cook was an all-sec player a season ago a as a sophomore and should improve. CB Captain Munnerlyn has proven that he is a lockdown corner and has the skills to be an all-american this season.

Team Overview:
Last Season Kentucky had a great season spending much of it the top 25 and pulling a huge upset over LSU, and having a heisman candidate in Andre Woodson. Well that is all going to change this season. Kentucky has a QB battle between the more experienced Curtis Pulley who actually was the #1 a couple seasons ago and the lanky, but solid Mike Hartline. The RB's are loaded. Tony Dixon, Derrick Locke and FB/RB Moncell Allen all have had significant play time and are proven. Then there is the x-factor Alphonso Smith a speedy, home-run threat back who may be the back to watch for the Cats. The WR's are lead by the steady Dicky Lyon's who has never been more than a #3 receiver though he has double-digit career TD catches. After him the group is unproven and unless one of the pint sized receivers really steps up it will be very weak. The "O" line returns behind one of the most underappreciated players in the game Left Tackle Gary Williams. The "D" line is the strength of this team. DT Myron Pryor is a great pass rusher 7 sacks, and Jeremy Jarmon had 62 tackles, and sacks a season ago, he is one of the best players in the SEC. The LB's return senior Johnny Williams and Braxton Kelley, who combined for over 100 tackles a season ago. The secondary also returns 3 starters led by CB Trevard Lindley, a player on the Nagurski award watch list.

Team Overview:
I am beginning to wonder how much time Bobby Johnson has got left at Vandy. He is 20-50 in his career and really has not done anything special. A bad season this year and he is done, at least I feel. The key to the season for Vandy is QB Chris Nickson. A year ago Nickson played so badly he lost the starting job. 2 seasons ago he was dominant and appeared to be one of the best QB's in the SEC. If he can play well again this team, should play much better. The WR's a pair of seniors in George Smith and Sean Walker are both returning starters, but neither has produced much in their career and will not be very proven targets for Nickson. The RB slot is also new, with senior Jeff Jennings a career backup appearing to be the new starting back for this team. The "O" line is the real problem. Vandy lost all 5 starters. Expect teams to blitz all day on this weak line that has not 1 player with more than 2 starts on it. The "D" line is also not proven only returning 1 starter, but Steven Stone and Broderick Stewart are both veterans who know the system and should be solid ends. The LB's are also questionable returning only 1 starter the solid, steady, Pat Benoist. The secondary will be the strength off this team. They only allowed 197 yards a game a season ago and were 18 th in the nation in that category. They return all 4 starters highlighted, by all-conference corner DJ Moore a speedster with great ball skills.

Team Overview:
The Tigers made one of the biggest moves of the off season in picking up Missouri offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, to be their Offensive coordinator. This move will change Auburns offensive stlye to a more wide open spread attack. Because of this it appears Chic-Fil-A-Bowl MVP QB Kodi Burns has the edge in the QB battle simply, because he is very mobile, and has the skills as a passer to be efficient in the offense. While Chris Todd is still in the running, I would be shocked if he won the job. The RB situation is a good one for the Tigers. Brad Lester, Ben Tate, and Mario Fannin are all back and all have significant experience at RB. Lester is the best of the bunch and should be the leader of the group. The WR core is solid also, and Rod Smith is back after a 50+ catch season, and Montez Billings had 28 receptions a year ago. Both can stretch the field and give Auburn true deep threats. The other WR spots could go to spring stars such as Tommy Trott or Terrell Zachery. The "O" line is very very good as it returns all 5 starters and should be loaded after starting 3 freshman a season ago. Guard Tyrone Green is back and is among the best guards in the nation. If Chaz Ramsey continues to develop as he did a season ago, the Tigers are loaded up the middle on offense. The "D" line returns 2 starters, but both of em are really good. DT/DE Sen'Derrick Marks is a force to be reckoned with a season ago he had 7.5 sacks and is athletic enough to get to the passer from his DT spot. Coleman is a great pass rusher, who really can attack the QB. The LB core is not lackluster either as all 3 starters return. The leader will be Trey Blackmon, but only if he can stay helathy and out of trouble. He is a great rusher off the edge, and made a name for himself a couple seasons ago aginst Florida. The secondary will be the weakness of the team only returning 2 starters, though Zac Etheridge was decent as a Freshman at safety.

Team Overview:
The reining national champs lost a whole lot of talent, but have the skils to have yet another successful season. At QB Ryan Perrilloux's dismissal from the team really hurt them. Either small, but mobile Jarrett Lee only a Freshman or the Harvard transfer Andrew Hatch, a more pocket passer will take over the reins. The RB's are loaded. Charles Scott had over 300 yards a season ago, and is more of a power back, who can be run up the gut. Keiland Williams is freak with great skills and speed. A year ago he had 6 TD's and was the #2 back on the team. Richard Murphy showed his potential in a huge spring game performance and has entrenched himself in the RB battle for carries. Last is world-class sprinter/WR/RB/PR/KR Trinton Holliday, who will be the speed/ change of pace back for this team. At WR this team also returns Brandon LaFell who had 50 catches a season ago, and Demetrius Byrd who had 500+ yards a season ago and 1 memorable catch against Auburn. Terrance Tolliver has a lot of size and potential, if he can produce he will be a great #3 for this team. TE Richard Dickson returns after a huge National Championship game. The "O" line is loaded returning 4 starters led, by all-american candidate left tackle Ciron Black, a massive kid. The "D" line is also loaded with star DE Tyson Jackson who only had 2.5 sacks a year ago, and Al Woods a DT who may not start yet is being hailed as a top 10 pick. Woods has great size and skill, while Championship game defensive MVP Ricky-Jean-Francois is back and will rotate between DE and DT. Marlon Favorite was decent a season ago and may start at the other DT spot. The other end is led by Kirston Pittman who had 7.5 sacks a season ago. The LB's were hurt ,only Darryl Beckwith returns. Beckwith is solid, but will have unproven talent around him. In the secondary only safety Curtis Taylor returns, though Chad Jones has drown rave reviews in practice and will be ready for action this season. The CB spots are a mystery this season and teams should attack that.

Team Overview:
Year 1 of the Nick Saban era was like a rollar coaster in that it had it's highs and lows, but overall was a mediocre 7-6 season. Now Bama rolled in the #1 ranked recruiting class of 08 and seem orimed to improve this season. It all starts behind center where QB john Parker Wilson is back for his third season as a starter. The RB situation is settled with the small, but speedy Terry Grant as the starter after he ran for 900 yards as a Freshman. Behind him Roy Upchurch and Glen Coffee are ready to go after producing last season. The WR will be weird without DJ hall, but a pair of true Freshman in Julio Jones and Burton Scott should contribute especially Jones who was a top-5 recruit with incredible tools. Senior Nikita Stover returns and should be the top receiver for the Crimson Tide. The "O" line is the strength of this team. Tackle Andre Smith is a mammoth at 6-5 340 and will be an all-american and future top 10 pick. Center Antoine Caldwell is a star and one of the top 5 centers in the game. The "D" line returns 2 starters, but DE Bobby Greenwood will lead the team up front. THe LB core is also good behind freshman sensation Rolando McClain. The secondary is chock full of playmakers in CB/PR/KR Javier Arenas, whose speed and ability to take anything the distance make him very valuable. Kareem Jackson was very good as a freshman and should improve and develop into a nice Corner.

Team Overview:
The Razorbacks will have to make some serious adjustment with the hire of Bobby Petrino. The offense will go to a more west coast type of scheme. QB Casey Dick who has been criticized to no end will be the starter, and should throw the ball around 30 times a game this season. He looked very good in the spring game, so hopefully Dick can continue to play well. The RB situation is in disarray as D-Mac and Felix Jones, both bolted to the NFL. Michael Smith will take over, but Smith is a small speedy back, who will more than likely be a good receiver out of the backfield, but not an every down back. The WR's are all new as Londan Crowford and Lucas Miller should be the two starters after good solid springs. TE Andrew Davie may be key this season for the Razorbacks. The "O" line returns 3 starters highlighted, by rimington award winning center Johnathon Lugis. The "D" line returns 3 starters headed by a pair of speedy pass rushing ends Adrian Davis and Damario Ambrose. The LB core will be decent with 2 returning starters in Fred Fairchild who has had off field problems and developing star Wendel Davis. The secondary is all new and that will be the biggest problem for this team, Matt Harris will be the leader after a great spring at safety.

Team Overview:
The decision to choose Houston Nutt as the head coach, was a bit questionable to me, but not a bad hire. It is unknown to me if there will be any significant changes for Ole Miss' scheme so I assume there are none. At QB the starter will be former 5* recruit and Texas QB Jevan Snead. Snead will be a breakout player he has good size, mobility and a solid arm. At RB this team has will have the highly touted Frosh Enrique Davis a star coming out of High School who has all the talent in the world. AT WR Mike Wallace had 700+ yards receiving a season ago and is a great deep ball threat for Snead. Shay Hodge had 43 catches a season ago and is a solid possession receiver. The "O" line has the bes t"O" lineman in the nation in left tackle Micheal Oher a future top 5 NFL draft pick. He and fellow tackle John Jerry form one of the best "O" lines in the SEC. THe "D" line is even better. End Greg Hardy is a top 20 pick in the future and had 10 sacks a season ago, while tackle Peria Jerry is the run stopper he had 14 tackles for loss a season ago. Both are supreme talents that do not get the respect that they deserve. At LB Ashlee Palmer and Tony Fein both return, but neither has impressed in the past. The secondary is back with 3 returning starters, but only Safety Johnny Brown impressed me last year.

Team Overview:
Last year was one of the greatest in MSU football history, going 805 winning a bowl game, pulling upsets over Auburn and Alabama, it was a great season to be in Starksville. At QB Wes Carroll is back and primed for a big improvement over his Freshman season. RB Anthony Dixon is built like a fullback and will be the focal point of the offense this season. At WR Jaymel Smith has a little track record, but Co-Eric Riley is the #2 receiver and until he steps up it will be hard for Mississsippi State. The "O" line is in trouble only guard Anthony Strauder returns, and unless someone steps up this will be a huge weakness for the boy's from Starksville. The D line has both tackles Kyle Love and Jessie Bowman back. And in a better story Junior end Tim Bailey was in the Iraq War and now will be the starter for the Bulldogs. The LB's return 2 starters a pair of vets in Jamar Chaney and Dominic Douglas while the secondary returns 3 starters all who helped Mississippi State have the 7th best passing defense in the nation. All 3 are seniors , but Free Safety Derek Pegues is the star a future NFL draft pick he had 5 picks a season ago and will lead this team all season long.

SEC Title Game:
This matchup would have just occurred 3 weeks earlier with Georgia coming out on top, so both teams will be fresh in each other's mind's. Simply Auburn's weak secondary will allow Matt Stafford to get going deep which then opens up the run for Moreno. While Auburns front 7 may be able to contain Georgia the LB's will have to go help deep and that will allow Moreno and King to establish themselves running the football. Auburn should be able to get outside, but if they go up the middle they will be in for a rude surprise. Simply Georgia is way to good for Auburn and will beat the m twice in 1 season.
