The Bulls biggest needs in the offseason are to fix the log jam at guard and acquiring someone who can score down low.

Step 1: Trade Hinrich and Tyrus Thomas to the Clippers for Elton Brand.  LAC gets a PG and a SF to replace Corey Magettee who leaves in free agency.

Step 2: Resign Deng and Duhon.  Let Ben Gordon and his ten million per year walk.

Step 3: Start Rose right away over Duhon and let him learn the ropes.  The sooner the better in this case, and Rose should start from day one.

Step 4: Sign Dikembe Mutombo to provide leadership and teach Joakim Noah how to act on and off the court.

The Bulls would now have this for a roster.

PG: Derrick Rose, Chris Duhon, Jameson Curry

SG: Larry Hughes, Thabo Sefolosha, Shannon Brown

SF: Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni, Demetris Nichols, Cedric Simmons

PF: Elton Brand, Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni, Cedric Simmons

C: Joakim Noah, Drew Gooden, Dikembe Mutombo

The Bulls, with this roster now have a go to player, post scoring, and have finally fixed the logjam at guard.  This roster wouls surely make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.  Depending how fast Rose develops, this team could be a 50-game winner in a year or two.

Gooden needs to start, Noah needs to sit and be a 18-20mpg off the bench

Hint: Thomas is a PF and Brand isnt going to Chicago for just Hinrich and Thomas

I agree more with DJ's assesment then yours. Good blog, though.

Thanks for the input. I figured LAC would do it in a sign and trade so they got atleast something for Brand....

June 30, 2008  03:24 PM ET

I saw your point Dallas_Fan. Just not so sure that the Bulls would want to go back down the Elton Brand road.

He may be the low post scorer that they have been missing (since they traded him away of course) but he may be a been there done that option.

This is very true. They may not be willing. But this is just what I would do. If i had to predict what the Bulls would do this blog would be totally different.

Why trade Ben Gordon? I'm tired of people saying we should trade our best perimeter scorer. I agree with the tyrus thomas and hinrich deal somewhat, but why not have three 20 ppg scorers in brand, gordon, and deng? First of all as nice as it sounds the clippers would never do that. Brand is their franchise player bro, and I would much rather trade hughes over gordon. Hughes is washed up, and Dikembe Mutombo?!!! Are you serious? Get the hell outta here..

Actually Tyrus is a natural SF. He came into the league as SF, but you know how the bulls roll constantly playing people out of position. ahem.. hinrich's a natural sg!

first of all, why should the bulls let ben gordon go for nothing, they can at least do a sign and trade with him. and everybody that keeps blaming hinrich for everything that went bad last year, abviosly havent seen this team the last couple of years. first of all, theres a reason he was a lottery pick from kansas, theres a reason he won the ncaa championship, theres a reason why the bulls gave him that big contract, and theres a reason he got 2nd team all defense last year. hes got a nice shot, and good ball handeling skills, and a solid to/assist ratio. and the only reason why he isint a 10apg guy is because the bulls dont have any good finishers on there team. thats why i think that niether him nor tyrus should be traded. they shoulldnt giv up on him so fast. he has the talent to be a 18ppg 3 bpg and 11rbg guy. he just needs mins!! when the bulls gave him 30+mins last year, he produced. i think they should do watever they can to get rid of hughs and gordon, for a good pf. i would like to see sefolosha start at the 2guard and hinrich to be the 6th man and get 25 to 30mins pg.

I gurantee you the Bulls aren't going to trade T.Thomas...I would use Gordon in a sign and trade deal to bring in veteran low post player

July 1, 2008  02:53 PM ET

The Bulls aren't going to trade Thomas and I wouldn't either with the addition of Rose...I think with Rose's help he will develop into a very good player. That being said I would use Gordon in a sign and trade deal for a veteran low post scorer.

i agree with the last 3 comments thomas will blossom given more playing time and especially right now with the arrival of d.rose. thabo will be a good 2guard.can shoot and defend..and i think kirk will accept his role coming off the bench because he is a team player. sign and trade ben gordon and maybe gooden or nocioni..but i rather see gooden go..for a scoring pf.. wish pax will get brand back to chitown...

J, LOL Mutumbbo wouldnt be in the rotation. Some needs to teach Noah how to conduct himself cuz he has no idea by himself.

The only idea I like in this is to sign Dikembe Mutumbo. Getting Brand would be nice, but letting go of Thomas is a huge mistake. They should keep Thomas who will eventually develop with a skilled point guard like Rose in the lineup, First, I think that the trade with the Cavs was a horrible idea. The Bulls got two sub-par at best players who do not belong in Chicago. They should get rid of Gooden, Hughes, and Brown for some player who isn't good, but could get better. For instance trade Hughes for Troy Murphy, waive Brown, and wait for Drew Gooden's contract to be up in 2009. Second, they should resign Luol Deng and Ben Gordon. If they let go Gordon he'll be a superstar somewhere else, same thing goes for Deng. Last, if they could maybe work out a signing with Emeka Okafor for about eight million a year, not the thirteen million that the Bobcats offered him. This deal may seem far- fetched, but the Bulls can make it work. These should be the Bulls starting lineups and key bench players for next season.

My projected 2008-2009 starting lineup and key backups for the Chicago Bulls.

Starters Backups
PG-Derrick Rose Kirk Hinrich, Thabo Sefolosha
SG-Ben Gordon Kirk Hinrich, Thabo Sefolosha
SF-Luol Deng Andres Nocioni , Tyrus Thomas
PF-Tyrus Thomas Joakim Noah, Troy Murphy, Drew Gooden
C-Emeka Okafor Dikembe Mutumbo, Joakim Noah
