This is the 2nd edition of '08 Upset Alerts. This is one of many weekly blog's that FGCFF has to offer. If interested in joining send an application to me or Georgiafan1000. Anyways back to the blog.

Tennessee vs. UCLA

UCLA and Tennessee are both coming off of close bowl games. The Bruins lost a heartbreaker to BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl, while the Vols got a huge Outback Bowl victory against Wisconsin. The Vols did have a huge loss in offensive captain Erik Ainge, but Johnathan Crompton looks to be a great replacement. He has a strong arm and a solid scrambling ability. I don't see this as a HUGE upset, but I think UCLA pulls off a win here. First off it's in Bruintown, a tough place to play indeed. The Bruins are returning last year's quaterback and many defensive starters. This team should be making it to another bowl game and I see them getting some major momentum heading into the season with a win over the Volunteers.

Fresno State vs. Rutgers

I know both of these teams are ranked according to Athlon Sports, but this is a big chance to see if Fresno State is for real. It's always a big upset if a mid-major team beats a ranked major team. The Bulldogs looked really strong after that win over Kansas St. and then over Georgia Tech in their bowl game. They are returning weapons on both sides of the ball, and could be strong with a win over a Big East power. Rutgers lost a major threat in Ray Rice and without a strong running game the Bulldogs should pound the Scarlet Knights. For the Record both of these games are on Labor Day so watch for them.

Southern Miss vs. Auburn

The Golden Eagles are always a big Conference USA power. Auburn is highly overrated and shouldn't be that great with an established passing game. Remember they dropped a game to South Florida last year and Georgia Tech two years ago. Both of those games were at home. Southern Miss has a lot of talent on the defensive end of the ball, and if they can find a way to score with their RS Freshman Quaterback then the Golden Eagles could walk away with a victory. This should look more like a baseball score than a football score.

Tune in next week, when I look at 3 more possible upsets.

Nice, though I see no way Southern Miss wins regardless of having talented players like Gerald McRath and Damion Fletcher.

Surprising picks

The pick of UCLA over Tennessee is very interesting to me. I could see that happening..I could also see Tennessee dominating this game.

I wouldn't consider UCLA vs. Tennessee as much of an upset, because both are gonna have kinda a down year

UCLA is exceptionally thin on offense and unless Norm Chow can work an absolute miracle with Ben Olsen I believe it to be very doubtful a UCLA upset over Tennessee will occur...and I am a UCLA Bruin fan and Alumnus saying this.
