It's like the rabbit that keeps going, and going, and going. The Penguins are dropping players faster than the Titanic sunk. First Hossa says, "Notta". Then Roberts and Malone say, "syanatta" (however they spell it). Now it's Oprik saying, "Not". So much for the rematch against Detroit guys. This could be a book on how to self destruct in 30 days or less. What is going on in Pittsburgh??? Is it really becoming all about the money? Such a good team on the rise and now look at what's going on here. I'm scratching my head about all of this.....

It is always about money and the Pens got these guys to make a run at the Cup this season, not for future seasons. Nobody should be suprised the Pens cant pay all these greedy bas t a r d s what they want so they can go rot out in Vancouver or some other hockey Siberia just so they can cash a fatter check. Pathetic.

Pittsburgh Post Gazette report: Pens re-sign Eaton, Dupuis, and are "formalizing" 5 year extension @ $8.7 mil/year with Malkin.

With as many unrestricted free agents as the Pens had this offseason losing Malone, Roberts, and perhaps Orpik and Hossa isn't too bad. Plus, at this time, there is still a chance to get Orpik if the market is not what his agent is telling him it is and Hossa's only chance is to sign with a team that can afford his anticipated contract...Montreal. From what I hear, he doesn't want to play in Montreal. That said, I personally would get rid of all these guys and come playoff time and trade dealine time, we'll see who comes knocking on the Penguins door. GO PENS!

Brooks Orpik is the one that bothers me the most. A gritty defenseman who shuts down the opposition is not easily replaced. I maybe in the minority. But I thought Malone was good. Not great. Fifty something points playing on Crosby or Malkin's wing? Weak, Steve Larmer flourished playing with Denis Savard. He averaged 38 goals & 85 points. Sorry. But Ryan never came close. Penguins will probably sign Ladislav Nagy. He won't be too pricey & he could flourish with Crosby.

Shamrock....agree with you about Orpik. If the Pens can pay Whitney $4mil/year then they need to pay Orpik what he is worth.
I like Malone but I don't think he will have the numbers he did with the Pens. This appears to be a Robby Brown/Mario situation. (Don't know if you're old enough to remember that...)
As for Hossa....why would you want to go elsewhere if you are interested in playing with a quality team (his words). Yeah, yeah $$. (Give me your bank account and I'll be really happy.) But look at what some of the high-priced stars were doing during The Cup.....watching and wishing.

Hey guys... I about fell on the floor when I just found out the Red Wings, of all teams, just signed Hossa. I started laughing when I heard this saying, NO WAY, that isn't true. Then I get on ESPN and they say he's signed a deal worth 7.4 Million with Detroit. You've got to wonder if there isn't something wrong upstairs with Pittsburgh's organization that is making all these guys want to leave. Something is wrong. Hossa signed a ONE year contract only. The Penguins offered a 5 year I think. This fits right into Detroits scheme of things. I'm sorry guys but I still don't believe this one at all. Hossa must feel his best chance to win a cup is with the Wings.

The Pens offered him 7 something for 5-7 or something in there.... Just a slap in the face. **** Hossa...

It was $7.4 mil/year for 7 years. Now, if the Wings are gonna keep Hossa for longer than one year....who is gonna go?

It's about time somebody showed some loyalty (and getting good money too!).

The Pens didn't lose anybody yet in free agency. Malone, Roberts, Hall, Conklin, and I'll even say hossa doesn't count. If Orpik or Malkin didn't sign (I know Maklin wasn't a free agent this season) then I would have been worried.
