After everything that's gone wrong for the Nationals as of late, tonight's game against the Marlins seems such a welcome relief. To recap:
Collin Balester, who came up from Columbus to step into Shawn Hill's spot in the rotation, earned (at least to me, anyway) the right to another start with his effort tonight. Basically, 5 IP; 1 ER; 1 hit; 3 (I believe) walks; 1 hit batsman...and left with a 2-1 lead. Believe me, it got a little dicey there in the 5th with the bases loaded--yet he got out of that deal.
If you've followed my writings on here, you know I always ask "How are the Nats gonna eff it up tonight???". Well...despite Ronnie Belliard going salami ci-TY in the top of the 6th to make it 6-1, it took a mistake by Steven Small to have the lead cut to 6-4. And, wouldn't you know, it was Hanley Ramirez who parked it in the seats.
But, fear not, Nats fans. Our Nasties got 3 in the 8th to make it 9-4, but the Marlins cut it in the bottom of the 8th to 9-6. Now, the bottom of the 9th approaches.
(While I wait, it's a good time to mention IMHO, that Roger Bernadina just isn't lead-off material. He didn't lead off at Harrisburg, but he can swing a bat. Maybe dropping him to 2nd or perhaps 8th in the lineup might help him; I don't know.)
Anyway, here I sit @ 10:15 Eastern, and...Mike Jacobs gets a hit. Drat. The Marlins still have a shot. And yet another single. Double drat. Now it's Luis Gonzales at the plate...and...at last, the Nats win!!!
New and novel ways to give me a fricking ulcer, that's what the Nats do to me...
