This will be a series of blogs where I quickly review an NFL team and what they are likely to do next season. I will try to do all 32 teams.
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers didn't do much this off-season, not really any losses and not many gains. When you are as good and have the youth that the Chargers do, you don't really need to concentrate on breaking up your team after yet another disapointing postseason loss. This time, Michael Turner won't be back - a very wise choice by the Chargers. There were very slight rumors of getting rid of LaDanian Tomlinson as he inches out of his prime but he is the bets running back in the NFL, he shouldn't have a problem being a 1,000 yard rusher when he is in his early 30's. Besides, Darren Sproles, the third string RB last year, did well in 2007 and he could back up LT like he did last year, averaging 4.4 YPC. Besides, LT hasn't had a history of injuries or anything like that, Sproles won't be needed much . . .they come back with basically the same defense that they had last year and they also come back with the same QB in Philip Rivers and the same recieving corps. Chris Chambers will be with the Chargers for a full season this year and other than that, they are coming back with the same key players, which could help them and build up their team chemistry.
What to Expect
The Chargers have always did well during the regular season, it is just a matter of whether they can keep up that success in the post season which has never happened recently. They might have the talent to win around 13 games in a a weak division . . . Rivers has improved a bit and increased his leadership skills. Chambers is a little bit more comforable with the system this year. Their defense, like always, is stone hard with Antonio Cromartie, who picked off ten interceptions last year, and of course the sack master in Shawn Merriman. They could go deep into the playoffs, maybe an AFC Championship exit this time around - no hardware yet.
Prediction that will be totally wrong
Sproles and LT get injured, ironically right after they get rid of Turner
