I must admit it. I began to be a Doubting Thomas. When Orpik rejected the contract proposal last week, I began to get nervous. No word. Nothing. Then July 1 came, and went. Oh brother. He's gone. But as the day passed and still no word, I began to feel a ray of hope. Then finally on July 2, relief came. Orpik has signed a six year contract turning down more money. The fact that it was the pathetic New York Rangers made it all the more sweet. Finally. Finally someone who says he wants to say and take a "hometown discount" who actually sticks to his word.
"Deep down, I always knew Pittsburgh was the place I would be happiest," said Orpik, who inked a six-year contract worth $22.5 million to continue playing defense with the Penguins. "After the year we had and knowing the young core of guys we have coming back for that much longer ...

"I thought, 'If guys like (Sidney Crosby) and (Evgeni Malkin) can take less, everybody else can, too, including me."
Priceless. After hearing just how much money was tossed around the previous day, it was pleasant to see someone actually exhibit the endangered concept of team loyalty. After all, the Pittsburgh Penguins' logo is all that Brooks has known. It's reassuring to know that Orpik wants to his career's path to coincide with that of Crosby and Malkin. Good boy Brooks! We need more like ya!

That was good to see. Someone committed to the team. I think though the damage has been done as far as all the veterans leaving. All the young guys are going to have to step up big time this year if the Pens are going to make another serious run at the Cup. They need to add a big name with some game left in them. Mats Sundin.....anyone? Maybe Jagr? That would be a huge lift for Pittsburgh. You just never know what can happen......

There will still be no dynasty for you guys.

i'm just wondering what the reaction will be if hossa and his wings make an appearance to the iggloo this year. seems everyone takes the high road when they are throwing philadelphia fans under the bus. they booed jagr in the play-offs, now they might beg him to come back.

Pittsburgh fans proved during the Cup finals how classless they are. The City of Pittsburgh really should be ashamed of itself.

"I thought, 'If guys like (Sidney Crosby) and (Evgeni Malkin) can take less, everybody else can, too, including me."

Atleast one penguin who said he'd take a discount actually manned up and took it. Glad we resigned Orpik.

where will Hossa play in Hockey Town? No chance they split up the Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg line!

It's unlikely that Osgood will repeat. Last goalie to accomplish that feat was Tom Barrasso. Ty Conklin or Jimmy Howard are probably not Stanley Cup winning goalies. At least not yet. Look for the San Jose Sharks to finally break free of the Conference and reach the Finals.

Glad to have him for the next 6 years......

I Am....Jagr was boo-ed only because of HOW he left The Burgh. Any other ex-Pen always gets a very warm reception. As for Hossa, however, that remains to be seen......
