Top 10 Coaches

10.Chris Petersen, Boise State

In My opinion it is simple, Peterson took over a program, already soaring. What Peterson did though was elevate the program to new heights. At 23-3 through 2 seasons Peterson has had plenty of success and it does not appear it will end this season. Peterson is one of the great offensive minds in college football. Boise State has always had one of the top offenses ever since he arrived as offensive coordinator in 2001. Peterson is one of the young up and coming coaches in college football, and I expect him to be at a BCS team within 5 or 6 seasons.
9.Greg Schiano, Rutgers

Greg Schiano is another coach who has built a program. Prior to Schiano's arrival the Rutgers program had 1 bowl appearance ever. Now the Scarlet Knights have been to 3 straight bowls, and should make it 4 this season. Schiano is a great defensive coach who had jobs on the Bears and at Miami. Schiano has won multiple coach of the year awards, all of them in 2006. Schiano has also established himself as one of the best young coaches in the game, and when Joe Pa retires expect Schiano to take over.
8.Rich Rodriguez, Michigan.

Rich Rod is another coach that established a program as a force in college Football. The WVU program wasn't in horrific shape, but it was by no means an established force. Rodriguez using his unique spread option offense, and 3-3-5 defense established WVU as a force to be reckoned with in the Big East. In 7 years at West Va he went 60-26 with , four Big East titles and six consecutive bowl game bids. Though this season he may not be successful Rodriguez is a proven winner and can adjust his scheme to fit the players he has as he did for Tulane, using more of a pass-heavy spread offense similar to the one of Purdue's. Expect Rich Rod to establish Michigan as a power in the Big Ten and continue to be successful.
7.Jim Grobe, Wake Forest.

Grobe is yet another coach who has piloted a subpar program to new heights, and the future looks bright as well. Grobe is 46-39 in 8 seasons at Wake, but that doesn't tell the whole story. The past 2 seasons Wake has 1 BCS bowl appearance, and a 20-7 record. Grobe has established Wake as a program to watch out for in the ACC, using his unique redshirting system, that ensures there are more veterans on the field. I think Grobe has done a magnificent job of getting the best out of average talent.
6.Jim Leavitt, South Florida.

In fact if you put Leavitt #1 on the list you would have a valid point. Leavitt is the only coach USF has ever had, and has been wildly successful their. In 4 seasons under Leavitt the program became division-1-a, and then in another 4 seasons joined the Big East. Leavitt has led the program to an impressive 79-47 record, which is astounding when you consider how quickly he has done it . Leavitt is a very underrated recruiter, he may not sign the big name guys , but he gets players who later turn into stars.
5.Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech.

Beamer has established VT as a force to be reckoned with in the ACC, in fact the way Beamer has brought this program to success with little controversy and off-field issues is amazing. Beamer is 167-85-2 in 21 seasons at VT, and has built this program into one of the best in the nation. Beamer has now led VT to 5 straight double-digit win seasons, behind his famed Beamer Ball style of play, that focuses around stout special teams, solid defense, and ball control. This style of play has been wildly successful for VT, and they have one of the best coaches in the nation in Beamer to thank.
4.Mark Richt, Georgia

Mark Richt has been wildly successful at Georgia, in 7 seasons he has a 72-19 record, and leads a team that is a preseason favorite for the National Title race. Richt has 2 SEC titles, and 3 SEC East titles in his tenure at Georgia. Richt has a reputation as a great offensive mind which he established when he was the offensive coordinator at FSU. Richt has also had great success on the recruiting trail so far. Richt has been a great hit with the fans and is one of the best coaches in the game.
3.Bob Stoops, Oklahoma

Bob Stoops is another coach who has done great things at a perennial power. In 9 seasons as the head coach of Oklahoma, Stoops is 97-22. Throw in 1 title, 3 title game appearances. And 5 Big 12 titles you have on of the most successful coaches in the nation. Stoops is one of the great defensive minds in college football, though he has done a great job developing talented offenses as well. Really the only knock on Stoops is his struggles in bowl games.
2.Jim Tressel, Ohio State

Jim Tressel is one of the most classy coaches in the nation. Know for his famed sweater vest, Tressel is 208-73-2 in 22 seasons as a coach. Oh and did we mention he has won 5 national titles, 4 at Youngstown State, and 1 with Ohio State. Since Tressel has arrived at OSU, the Buckeyes are 73-16 with 3 national title appearances, 5 BCS games, 4 Big ten Titles, and most importantly a 6-1 record against Michigan, including 4 wins in a row against the team up north. Tressel is one of the most calm, kind, and classy coaches in the nation, and is a proven winner.
1.Pete Carroll, USC

Carroll is the most dominant coach in any sport right now, he owns college football. In 7 seasons at USC he has a 76-14 record. good right, but what is amazing is the fact he has won 6 straight pac-ten titles!! That means he has been to 6 straight BCS bowls. His teams record in those are 5-1, and he has coached 3 heisman trophy winners. Not to mention he is far and away the best recruiter in college football. Carroll is a great coach, and motivator, and really knows how to sell his program, as evidenced by his great recruiting classes. Unless something drastic happens Carroll is the best coach in college football.

This is well done. Look for Rodney Shannon (Miami, Fl) to show up on the radar this season if UM finishes strong.
