so NY gets to be the capital of the sports world again-- even if for just one day.
Tomorrow, the MLBers will be on display as they first parade down broadway, then showcase their skills in the anual All Star Game.
But here's a question to think about on the eve of the mid-summer's classic...
would baseball be better off doing something else during the break.
Like how about just the Home Run Contest-- just add more contestants? or Pitch, Hit and Throw competition.
But i'm starting to think that the days of All Star Games have outlived its time.
Interest has certainly diminshed over the years...maybe diluted by interleague play, or maybe fans are just growing tired of guys asking out of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
TV ratings are off- year after year...that ought to tell you something. Yet, the HR Derby seems to draw a bigger audience each year.
Maybe that's what fans really care about during this respid period in the season. Guys just swinging for the fences.
Players hate the game-- because they'd rather go home for 3 days than to stick around and fly out to the game site.
Managers hate the game-- they're always asking anyone who will listen to pull their starter after 20 pitchers.
So this makes it very hard to pull off a good game.
Here's another idea...Maybe try the game at the beginning of the season instead of the middle. Baseball fervor is so hot coming into April-- why not host the game in a warm weather client and start the season off with a bang.
