Like it or not, the starters are what they are. You can argue Fukudome or Soriano or Varitek or Ichiro are less deserving than others, but the game goes on.
If I'm Clint Hurdle here's how I would set up the NL's lineup:
Note: Soriano, while listed as starting is doubtful to play in the game. I'm going to place Matt Holliday, who I feel will take his place. He is a star around baseball, swinging the hottest bat in the league, and has a little advantage with his manager setting up the lineups.
SS- Hanley Ramirez- Gives you speed and AVG at the top. A must for any All-Star.
LF- Matt Holliday- Swinging a hot bat. Has some speed with 10 SB and a nice avg 342. Can do a lot in the #2 spot.
2B- Chase Utley- Leads the ML in HR with 23. A good spot for him after batting 8 in the All Star game last year.
DH- Albert Pujols- Easily the best hitter on the NL, when healthy.
1B- Lance Berkman- He's had the most impressive offensive season for any hitter so far. He earns the #5 spot.
3B- Chipper Jones- Staggering around 400 all year. No other place really to put him. Shows how strong the 1-6 hitters are.
RF- Ryan Braun- A late push to start. He's been having a quietly impressive year after his hot rookie year.
C- Geovany Soto- A potential RBI spothere as the guys before him usually get on base.
CF- Kosuke Fukudome- Works the count, has a nice AVG, and draws walks. A nice definition for the #9 hitter.
