In a league usually dominated year in and year out by Red Sox and Yankees, this year proved no different. You can say some deserve it- A-Rod, Youkilis, Pedroia, Manny. You can say others don't - Jeter.
None the less, it is some what fitting this year to be dominated by these two teams. As it is in Yankee Stadium, where Boston and New York have battled in a stadium which legends from each team dueled for a victory over their enemies.
So here's my lineup for the AL..
Note- David Ortiz is OUT. Milton Bradley is scheduled to start at DH.
Here's my lineup if I were Terry Francona.
CF- Ichiro- A classic leadoff hitter. Not his typical year, but he has had that leadoff spot EVERY YEAR he's been in the game. Impressive.
SS- Derek Jeter- I just bashed him. But he deserves to be at the top of the lineup still. Captain of the Yanks is rewarded by batting 2 in Yankee Stadium.
RF- Josh Hamilton- What a season! What a story! Triple Crown possibility.
3B- Alex Rodriguez- No brainer here. Best hitter of the era.
LF- Manny Ramirez- He's still a star and a dangerous threat at the plate.
1B- Kevin Youkilis- He will work the count and has a 313 AVG to his name. He comes up with big hits. I like Youkilis here in the 6 hole.
DH- Milton Bradley- Hot head or not. He's in the top 5 for AVG in the AL. Him or Youkilis can go either way with 6/7 hitter.
C- Joe Mauer- Maybe the best pure hitter in this lineup. He rarely K's and will put the ball in play.
2B- Dustin Pedroia- A great 9 hole hitter. All the guy does is get hits. He is in the midst of a hot streak as well.
Again, packed with 2 Yankees and 3 Red Sox. Texas has 2 players as well. So 7 of the 9 players in this lineup are from a total of 3 teams. You could make a case Texas should have 4 with Kinsler and Young. The game remains the same though. Yanks and Sox dominate the votes. Unlike previous years, this year is much more fitting.
