Recently there has been talks of NFL quarterback legend Brett Favre coming back to football after announcing his retirement a few months ago. This has sparked rumors of Farve going to Carolina, Texas, whatever since the Pacekers apparently don't want him, they believe they should now move on, and they have every right to do so.
Now I'm not much of a Packers fan, but I am taking their side this time. Brett Favre has become like an old yo-yo flipping on his decision time after time and he expects the Packers to be waiting for him whatever his decision may be. I'm not saying Brett's a bad person, he evidently loves football and that's why he keeps changing his mind but the Packers can't keep on waiting on him. When Brett announced his retirement, I'm sure the Packers were sad but they decided to move on. Ever since, they've been getting Aaron Rodgers ready to take over and he has shown great promise and right when Rodgers and the Packers think they've got it going, guess who comes knocking back...
But now if he really wants to come back, the Packers have no choice but to either trade him or release him, that means Favre, a Packer legend will finish his career not wearing a packer uniform. This puts Green Bay in a tough situation, they can't allow him to go anywhere nor can they afford to once again postpone their future plans because Mr. Favre has changed his mind, again. So, one must wonder if Favre loves the Packers' organization so much just as he proved over the last couple of years, does he want to risk the love the Packers' fans had for him all along just for another year playing on some other team where like Carolina or Texas where the chances of actually winning are so low? Does he want to risk his legacy as a Packer? Does he want to have that other jersey he wore for one year haunting him for the rest of his life? Does he really? All this for a 1 to 10% (Being very generous) to win it with Minnesota or Carolina, has he forgotten how hard it is to win it? Are people forgetting the Tome Bradys, Peyton Mannings, etc he'll have to compete against, it won't be that easy, it will in fact most probably not happen.
Think about Aaron Rodgers, now I'm not going to go out and say that Rodgers is a future legend and therefore the Packers should put everything on the line for him but after months of hard work, and years lying in Favre's shadow, doesn't he deserve a chance, everyone deserves a chance and he's worked hard enough to get his and doesn't deserve Favre popping back up again like he always does.
Favre is not a villain, he's a victim of his hard love for the game, and that's perfectly ok, but there are limits. Favre is like any other player in almost every pro sport, only once the games start to come around that he realises how much he misses the sport he used to play, but unlike other players his hard love for the game is drinving those thoughts to do dangerous things like put on a different jersey that the one he's been wearing for a decade and a half now. He just needs to get his head on straight, that's all...
And that's why Brett Favre should retire, now.
'Nuff said.
