I will admit that i am a 53 yr old white male. I do not know what it was like to grow up poor or disadvantaged. yet I wonder why I don't see black athletes do major anti drug and anti gun ads. It bothers me that street cred is more importent the teaching kids that there are better ways then getting high or shooting people. I have a fourteen yr old ballplayer that is at an impressionable age. So are his friends. Yet here is what I unfortunitly see on a regular bases.
NBA players being arrested for marijuana posession. Maybe I grew up wrong but the last time I knew it was illegal. So why is it so cool to do it. NFL players being caught with a small arsenal of illegal weapons. Just once I would like Allen Iverson to stand up, point to a joint and say to the camera, not cool. You see guys my kids by in large are not the ones dieing with bullet hole in the street. Hey Allen and the rest of you guys. How about a serious get an education message. How about being a solution and not a problem. Because Mr. Barkley whether you like it or not you are an example. You make the dough and you have the skills. Mr. Iverson how about standing up, and taking account. Not every kid black or white will get to be a star. But they don't have to die, or become pregnant at 16. There are enough opportunities out there. but ya gotta work for it. The community should never look down on someone who tries to better themselves. I don't give a rats **** whether you listen to rap, or have a dozen tats. I do care whether you have a dozen kid by different women. At what point does that make you a man.
Finally to all the commisioners out there how about this. The first time an athlete gets caught for drugs, their suspeneded a year. the second they never play again. Lets see how manty then really want it.
