Of course, you're probably familiar with the ninth commandment: "Thou shalt not make fun of the scandal at a rival school, lest scandal be visited upon your school." Florida State fans learned this one the hard way last year when they spent months laughing and pointing at Florida fans, whose favorite players couldn't seem to stop having sleepovers at the Alachua County jail. So what happened? The Seminoles had more than a dozen players suspended for cheating on an online test, and the NCAA is investigating.
So be weary, Nebraska fans, because the football gods might be cooking up something extra special after the stunt one of your own pulled this week. According to The Oklahoman, James Conradt, a Nebraska fan living in Austin, used an Oklahoman Web site template to create a fake story about the fake arrests of Sooners quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Landry Jones on fake charges of cocaine distribution. Conradt then posted the link to the story on a message board. Naturally, two Texas radio stations picked up the story and reported it as fact without actually attempting to verify its veracity.
Conradt apologized profusely, but that may not help him. Jones' father, Kevin, said he's "going to prosecute (Conradt) to the fullest extent of the law." The Oklahoman may also sue as well. Meanwhile, folks in Lincoln should be on the lookout for plagues of locusts and/or NCAA investigators.
