The Cure for the Summertime Blues

Sports, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship BB&S. Its infinite mission: to explore hot new babes, to seek out new hotties and new sports news, to boldly go where no man has gone before....... Or something like that. Yes, its mid-July, Space, and the summer doldrums have set in hard for yours truly. All major sports except baseball are in the off-season. Baseball is in mid-season of a 162 game marathon. Which is another way of saying "yeah, its going on, but its still got a loooong way to go." We at least have some baseball trades, some NBA free agent goings on, and a trickle of NFL news to explore. Its not much, but then again, its mid-July and this is the best we can do until training camps open. One other note: my birthday falls this time of year. For a sports fan, this has got to be the worst time of year to have a birthday. I've had countless MLB All-Star games land on my birthday. Be aware - I cannot stand the All-Star game, in any sport. They are pointless exhibitions and as a fan, I would much rather see my favorite players playing with their team in games that matter, not watching millionaires screw off while trying not to get hurt.

Tony Romo's top 3 Ipod songs are 1)  "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey - a favorite of mine when I was, uh, thirteen  - 2)" Sweet Child ‘O Mine" by GnR - yes that was good 20 years ago  - and lastly 3) "something by Jessica Simpson" -Wha? Bwahahahahahaha! Oh Cowboy fans (wiping laughter tears from my eyes) Your QB is whupped. Does Jessica Simpson actually make music? I thought she just looked hot in videos and acted. Oh well. So Tony's hittin' that, and is obsessed with saccharine pop songs. A-Rod is obsessed with Madonna songs. Neither one can win in the playoffs. Pattern here? Maybe someone should do a study on the correlation between athletes who don't come through in the clutch and wuss music.

So once again the ball got passed inside to the Clippers, they had a wide-open look, went up for the slam-dunk - and promptly let the ball slip through their fingers and fall out of bounds to the Sixers. Of course I'm talking about their botched negotiations with Elton Brand. Really, is this supposed to be surprising? As soon as I heard the news last week that the Clips were signing away Baron Davis, it was only a matter of time before something went wrong for the Clips. In a way, I feel sorry for them... in another way this is just comedy. I'm a little surprised only in how quickly it took for them to shoot themselves in the foot. With this move and letting Corey Maggette walk away to the Warriors, the Clips have once again guaranteed themselves a seat in the lottery next year. Speaking of Maggette, if two mediocre teams swap players, what do you end up with? Answer: two still mediocre teams - although I do think Baron helps the Clips more the Maggette helps the Warriors. Neither team is doing much to bolster their fanbases' faith in their management, however.

Folks may liken the recent Sabathia and Harden trades in MLB to the NBA trades of Gasol - then Shaq and then Kidd. I don't really see it exactly that way. Gasol was given to the Lakers. The Brewers meanwhile, gave up a top prospect Matt LaPorta, to get what is essentially a rent-a-player in Sabathia for the rest of the season. In AA ball this year, LaPorta has 20 jacks and 66 RBI's in 82 games. This guy is an entire universe away from being a Kwame Brown. On the surface, maybe the Cubs got a steal in getting Harden. However, I wisely have stopped questioning the judgement of one Billy Beane. One only need to look as far as division rival St Louis and the unfortunate end of Mark Mulder's career, to see Mr. Beane knows exactly when to buy or sell. I'm still expecting to Huston Street moved to a contender before July 31st as well, as the A's prepare for a 2010 playoff run. There will be more upcoming, as baseball prepares for its best time - Fall. Looks like the Rockies and Mariners among others, may be entering sell off mode. Heck,  we might even see Barroid Bonds back in the batters box before too long.

So the football offseason is winding down, and you know what that means? That's right - NFL players getting in trouble with the law for the last time before they have to be responsible adults for six months. Matt Jones of the Jaguars was caught cutting coke with a credit card in Arkansas. Kevin Faulk pleads no contest to marijuana possession charges. Lofa Tatupu of the Seahawks pleaded guilty to DUI. Throw in a bit of Mike Vick filing for bankruptcy and another arrest being made in the Javon Walker "attack" (wink, wink) and Chris Henry being too broke to pay for a transcript of his trial and there you have it - the News of the NFL. My buddy Pete has it right when he calls them the National Felons League. OOO - can we talk about Brett Favre, Please? Um No. Why would I want to discuss a guy who retired 3 months ago? Until he comes out and officially says something like "I have decided not to retire." This story really bugs me. People are already throwing out trade scenarios and who he might sign with if they release him. Didn't this guy just throw like 29 interceptions 2 years ago? Sure, he's a Hall of Famer - but mostly he is a HoF'er due to the things he did 5-10 or even 15 years ago. Now he's just a guy who is a year older than me, who doesn't have to make a monthly installment on his Bowflex because they probably gave it to him for free for hawking them on TV.

These are the things on my mind today. At least I didn't have to resort to mentioning Jose Canseco's upcoming boxing match. I didn't have to mention the HUGE deal SI is making about a certain washed up tennis player. I'm really focused on my upcoming vacation next month. Not too terribly thrilled that it still looks foggy outside even though the temperature is 110 degrees here. Does it seem like this last paragraph is just put in here so I could throw a few more pics in? Ok - you got me. You know, I could be anybody, this is just the internet. I've been pretty silent on a certain issue. At a certain point, however, I've got to make a mini-stand here, and if it costs me readers, well, so be it. There once was a certain user who was very instrumental in encouraging me to begin this place we are all enjoying right now. Everyone here is just a virtual personality. So don't get too hung up on one person/user. It's really turning me off of this place, and if y'all can't grow up and just get over it, you only are proving your childishness to me. So I'd just like to end this blog with the words of Rodney King, - "People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along?"

great blog

Just remember, the Rodney King line came AFTER he got the ugly beat out of him (courtesy of the LAPD). Thought I'd throw that in...
And WHAT'S wrong with "consummate pro"?? Hova hung that one on me, and I happen to like it. It fits. He says I should be writing for real; I told him if he wants to be my agent and GET me a gig, fine. Obviously, I haven't heard back from him on that...LMAO
The more the media keep feeding this Favre story, the GREATER disservice being done to Brett, the Packers AND Aaron Rodgers. That's MY take on it.

To hell with the naysayers. And Jessica Simpson doesn't have to make music. All she has to do is show up. Romo is a very lucky man.

Man you're good at this.

Apparently all she has to do is show up - and the Cowboys lose. He's lucky alright, but not when she's around

But I guess I just wanted to repeat something Hllywd actually said once

Arguing on the web is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

Continuing w/ the Romo watch...
Keep this in mind: Aikman took up with Lorrie Morgan (after her husband, Keith Whitley, offed himself on booze), and BAM!!! Concussions up the wazoo. (And let's thank LaVar for putting Aikman out of football, BTW.)
What's the over/under on Romo gettng HIS 1st concussion?? (And only of mild curiosity, how big is HIS, uh, hammer?? And how deep is HIS love?? LMMFAO)
Can we change the topic now?? lol

I actually like the MLB All-Star Games.

Is there some kind of subliminal messaging here?

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, I guess if you look at that way. If I were him and my team was 0-16 - I could still find a reason to be happy. But then, if the Boys go 0-16, she'd be dumping him in a heartbeat.

I'm probably in the minority on the All Star game issue Marc. Its just this - my wife asks me what I want to do for my birthday and I start thinking "A's game, A's game, A's game" and then I remember "oh crap, my birthday = All Star break" and I have to settle for something else.

Nice blog and happy birthday. I agree with the pointless all-star games. I'd rather see an all-star weekend with divisional all-star squads of maybe 8 players each face off in single game elimination. Maybe those teams win home court advantage in the playoffs or something. As for the other half of the blog, the girl in purple looks just like a really cute Russian friend of mine ... if her chest doubled in size ... should make for an interesting lunch today :) hahaha have a great weekend!
