The past few weeks have sparked an aura of excitement and pride within the Community of Maywood IL as one of its hometown heroes Glenn DOC Rivers led the Boston Celtics to a stunning 131 - 92 victory over the LA Lakers. Winning for himself, Father, and his team the 2008 NBA Championship...
Thousands of Proviso Township youth and adults sat transfixed to their television screens and exploded with pride and joy !
The excitement of the moment was soon deflated, when the national and local media credited Rivers profile and that of his late Father Grady Sr. to Chicago IL.....
This myth must not go unchallenged... The truth of the matter is that Rivers is a celebrated personality of School District 89 and Proviso East High School. His late Father in due respect was a Maywood Police officer.
The Proviso schools have given a flowing stream of outstanding players to the National Basketball Association, the US Track & Field Olympics, and the Chicago White Sox. Maywood cannot permit this illustrious history to be buried.......
When there are negative occurrences in our town- ship the airwaves are quick to blast the news. Now is the time to let the world know that good people come from Maywood IL.........
So Hail to the 2008 NBA Coach of the year !
