Bowl Projections

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
Dec. 23 / 8 p.m. ET San Diego, Calif. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Mountain West vs. Pac 10
Projection: TCU vs. UCLA-
Early Prediction-I think that this wil be a great way to kick off the bowl season. A battle between two solid teams. UCLA, if I am correct will be coming off of an upset win over USC, while TCU should have had a solid season. The key will be the two QB's Andy Dalton and Ben Olson. Neither has played very well and both have established backs in Khalil Bell, and Aaron Brown. I see the UCLA defense making the difference in this one. UCLA-24, TCU-17

Congressional Bowl
Dec. 20 / 9 p.m. ET Washington, D.C.
Tie-Ins: ACC vs. Army or Navy
Projection: Virginia vs. Navy

Early Prediction- I am not even certain that Navy will be bowl-eligible, so this is an easy pick for me. I know Virginia has struggled this offseason losing key players, but they are still a talented team. In fact if not for the loss of Fitzgerald and Sewell I would have them as a 8 or 9 win team, possibly. The only way Navy has a shot in this game is if they force turnovers, and totally and I mean totally dominate the clock with their offense. I don't see that happening. Virginia-31, Navy-14

Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl
Dec. 20 / 8 p.m. ET Las Vegas, Nev. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Mountain West No. 1 vs. Pac-10 No. 4
Projection: Utah vs. Washington

Early Prediction- This will be the highlight of the early bowl season. 2 of the most underrated QB's in the Game a pair of dual-threat runners in Brian Johnson, and Jake Locker. I see a shootout in the making, and I really like this Utah team more than I like  Washington. Locker really doesn't have that great weapons around him, while Utah has a top flight RB in Darrell Mack. That and the fact that Utah's defense is actually better than Washington should allow Utah to hold on to beat Washington in a great game. Utah-38,Washington-28

St. Petersburg Bowl
TBD Dec. 21 to 23 / 9 p.m. ET  St. Petersburg, Fl.
Tie-Ins: Big East vs. Conference USA
Projection: Uconn vs. Southern Miss

Early Prediction-This is another game that looks horrible on paper, but should actually be quite good. There are plenty of stars in this game all that can get a chance to shine. We will have a classic battle of offense against defense. USM has stars in Damion Fletcher and Shwan Nelson and Uconn counters with Robert Vaughn and Lawarence Wilson. So really the game will come down to Uconn's offense against USM's "D". I think that will be the difference Uconn has plenty of quality players like Tyler Lorenzen, Andre Dixon and DJ Hernandez and USM only has 1 good player though Gerald McRath is very, very good. So I got Uconn. Uconn-27, USM-24

R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Dec. 21 / 8 p.m. ET New Orleans, La. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Sun Belt No. 1 vs. C-USA
Projection: Florida Atlantic vs. Houston

Early Prediction-Yet another Bowl game with little appeal, but actually should be a decent game. FAU is one of the more underrated teams this season and have one of the best offenses in the nation behind Rusty Smith. Houston should be able to counter with talented defensive players like Phillip Hunt and Kenneth Fontennette, I see FAU's offense as being to much and they hold on to win this one.FAU-33, Houston-21

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Dec. 24 / 8 p.m. ET  Honolulu, Hawaii ESPN
Tie-Ins: Pac 10 vs. WAC
Projection: Arizona vs. Fresno State

Early Prediction-Now if you are a fan of offense and passing expect  this to be your type of game. I mean I see no way for Arizona  to win this game they don't have the CB's to stop Brandstater or the line to slow the plethora of backs State has . Don't expect a shootout, but Zona lacks the weapons in the secondary to stay  near Fresno State FSU-31, Arizona-17

Motor City Bowl
Dec. 26 / 7:30 p.m. ET  Detroit, Mich. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Big Ten No. 7 vs. MAC
Projection: Indiana vs. Miami(OH)

Early Prediction-Don't be stunned if Miami pulls a shocker in this one. If Kellen Lewis is not reinstated to the team, don't be surprised if Indiana is not even playing in this game, but with Lewis, I feel they have a good chance in this game. The key will be Miami's LB trio, which is among the best in the nation, to stop Lewis from being able to escape the pocket. If Miami does that I see a win, but Lewis and Middleton, are both stars who should be able to pull Indiana through. Indiana-31, Miami-21

Champs Sports Bowl
Dec. 27 / 4:30 p.m. ET  Orlando, Fla. ESPN
Tie-Ins: ACC No. 4 vs. Big Ten No. 4 or No. 5
Projection: Miami vs. Michigan State

Early Prediction-Early Prediction:The first big time bowl game of the season. I think that if Graig Cooper and Javvaris James play well enough the fact that Marve is not as good as Hoyer allows Miami to stay in the game, but the fact that Miami is lacking quality players at linebacker and QB causes this team to be unable to stop a real good Michigan State offense and the teams inablilty to pass the ball should allow MSU and Javon Ringer to knock off Miami. MSU-28, Miami-17

Emerald Bowl
Dec. 27 / 8:30 p.m. ET  San Francisco, Calif. ESPN
Tie-Ins: ACC No. 7 vs. Pac-10 No. 5
Projection: Florida State vs. Cal

Early Prediction-This would be a very intruiging matchup. A pair of talented, but the past few years underacheiving teams. Look at the storylines. We will have a pair of veteran QB's who never lived up to their early play(Drew Weatherford, Nate Longshorne). And a pair of younger QB's trying to knock them out(Christian Ponder, Kevin Riley). A pair of game-breaking big play speedster backs(Antone Smith, Jahvid Best). Talented defensive players( Myron Rolle, Everette Brown, Derek Nicholson, Zach Follet, Worrell Williams, and  Anthony Felder). I see FSU pulling through because if their additional playmakers on offense like Preston Parker, and Greg Carr. FSU-27, Cal-21

Meineke Car Care Bowl
Dec. 27 / 1 p.m. ET Charlotte, N.C. ESPN
Tie-Ins: ACC No. 6 vs. Big East
Projection: Georgia Tech vs. USF

Early Prediction-A game that may include 2 BCS teams, but no one would want to watch. I feel that GT and their unique offense under Paul Johnson has a shot in every game, just becuase of how unknown teams are with facing the offense, but in this one USF should pull out an easy win. Cincy has one of the best lines in the nation and that will make GT even more one dimensional then they usually are which allows Safety Nate Allen to stuff the pass. USF may  have that good weapons, and they can use talented receivers like Carlton Mitchell to move the ball on a weak GT secondary, so I like USF in this one.USF-27, GT-17

Texas Bowl
Dec. 28 / 8 p.m. NFL Network
Tie-Ins: Houston, Texas
Big 12 vs. Big East (in even years, C-USA in odd years)
Projection: Kansas vs. WVU

Early Prediction-Maybe the most intruiging non new years day game, a battle between a pair of spread offenses, and teams on the rise in the near future. Kansas will need Joe Mortenson and company to slow up Pat White and Noel Devine, but even though I think Kansas will go7-5 and WVU 9-3, it should be quite the bowl game. Expect fireworks offfensivly, because Kansas and WVU do not have the defenses to slow down the high powered offenses. I see White playing a great game in the last of his career and WVU winning. WVU-34, Kansas-27

PapaJohn’s.com Bowl
Dec. 29 / 3 p.m. ET Birmingham, Ala. ESPN2
Tie-Ins: Big East vs. SEC
Projection: Rutgers vs. **Central Michigan**

Early Prediction-This will be yet another great game for you passing game lovers, a pair of top notch QB's in Mike Teel, and Dan LeFevour. I see this as a game in which their will be little defense and all the star receivers(Tiquan Underwood, Kenny Britt, Bryan Anderson, Antonio Brown), get a cance to shine. I think the game will be won in the running game, and I feel that CMU, with LeFevour, and a pair of proven backs in Ontario Sneed, and Justin Hoskins allow CMU to pull a shocker in a shootout. CMU-44, Rutgers-41 ***CMU selected because no SEC teams available***

New Mexico Bowl
TBA Albuquerque, N.M. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Mountain West vs. WAC
Projection: Wyoming vs. New Mexico State

Early Prediction-This will be an interesting contrast of styles. NMSU's high powered run "N" gun wide open spread attack against Wyoming's slowed down boggged down heavy running attack. Both theams would be surprrises to get to this game, and the key may be for Wyoming and star DT John Fletcher, to get in the backfield and not give Chase Holbrook time to pass the football. If NMSU is capeable of holding up, which I believe they will, the Aggies should come out with a win. NMSU-37, Wyoming-24

PetroSun Independence Bowl
Dec. 28 / 8 p.m. ET  Shreveport, La. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Big 12 No. 7 vs. SEC No. 8
Projection: Kansas State vs. Ole Miss

Early Prediction-I think that both of these teams have great atalent and have the potential to pull some shockers and head to much better bowls. Maybe the key will be the QB play. Josh Freeman and Texas transfer Jevan Snead will be going at it, but I gott a give the edge to Freeman, I compare him in the same boat as JaMarcus Russell, he is a future top 10 pick. The trenches are the other key, and that is wher the scale tips big time in Ole Miss' favor. While KSU has Ian Campbell, Ole Miss has all-americans, Michael Oher, Greg Hardy, and Peria Jerry. Becuase of that I like Ole Miss in a decent game. Ole Miss-23, KSU-17

Alamo Bowl
Dec. 29 / 8 p.m. ET  San Antonio, Texas ESPN
Tie-Ins: Big Ten No. 4 or No. 5 vs. Big 12 No. 4
Projection: Michigan vs. Nebraska

Early Prediction- Yet another very good game, between a pair of programs having just switched coaches. This is also the rematch of the classic Alamo Batlle between the teams a couple of years back. I see Nebraska as a sleeper going 9-3 in the regular season while I have Michigan at 6-6. So an easy win right? I actually think not, while Nebraska does have Joe Ganz, and Marlon Lucky, Michigan has one of the best defenses in the game, and that should allow them to stay in the game, and I expect the offense to have clicked, by now and in a sign of things to come I like Michigan. Michigan-28, Nebraska-24

Pacific Life Holiday Bowl
Dec. 30 / 8 p.m. ET San Diego, Calif. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Big 12 No. 3 vs. Pac-10 No. 2
Projection:  Oklahoma vs. Oregon

Early Prediction-This would be the highlight of the non-BCS bowl season if you ask me. A pair-of-10 win top 12 teams, battling it out. Both would have cases to be in the BCS, and would have plenty to play for. OU will be out for revenge after those horrible calls ruined OU's season a couple of years ago. Oregon will be out to prove that was no fluke. Maybe the best matchup is OU's explosive offense against Oregon's stout "D" especially secondary. Sam Bradford, Juaqim Inglesias, and Jermaine Gresham trying to pass the ball on Patrick Chung, Jarius Byrd, and Walter Thurmond. Then their is the best "O" line in the nation trying to open hloes for DeMarco Murray, and protect Bradford, but they will have to stop Nick Reed, and John Bacon. Simply a great matchup. I will pick OU because they can really neutralize Oregon's offense and they themselves have such a high-powered offense it will be hard to stop for Oregon. Oklahoma-30, Oregon-21

Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl
TBA  Boise, Idaho ESPN2
Tie-Ins: ACC No. 8 vs. WAC
Projection:  ****Cincy*** vs. Boise State

Early Prediction-I can tell you this Cincy would be relived to get to a bowl after feeling how bad it was to not go to one 2 seasons ago. But this will be a lose, lose situation for Cincy  . Win everyone will claim it is because Boise is from the WAC, lose and have everyone got on your case for losing to a mid-major. In anycase I like Boise State, because  Ian Johnson, is a top flight back and Cincy's "D" has shown  me they can handle a top back Like him. That allows them to pull this one out. Cincy-33, BSU-21 ****Cincy selected, because no ACC teams available******

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl
Dec. 31 / 12 p.m. ET  Fort Worth, Texas ESPN
Tie-Ins: Mountain West vs. Conference USA
Projection: **Troy** vs. Memphis

Early Prediction- This will be a game that may not get to much hype, but should be a decent game. Troy will get a chance to shine in a bowl and I see nothing wrong with that. This matchup may seem bland, but stars like Carlos Singleton, and Boris Lee will get a chance to shine. Anyway I see Memphis rolling because of their edge in the WR's vs DB's matchup. Memphis-31, Troy-21 ***Troy Selected because no Mountain West teams are eligible***

<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
Sun Bowl
Dec. 31 / 2 p.m. ET. El Paso, Texas CBS
Tie-Ins: Big 12/Big East/Notre Dame vs. Pac-10 No. 3
Projection: Notre Dame vs. Arizona State

Early Prediction-An interesting battle, a perrienal power that may be falling on a bit off a rough pactch, and a generally pedestrian program that appears to be improving into a contender. The key to this game will be the offensive lines. Last season these two offensive lines gave up the first and second most sacks last season. I think that the fact that Notre Dame was worst and Arizona State has a pair of DE's in Dexter Davis, and Luis Vasquez who can get to the QB. I see this being a bit of a blow out. ASU-31, Notre Dame-17

Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl
Dec. 31 / 3:30 p.m. ET Nashville, Tenn. ESPN
Tie-Ins: ACC vs. SEC No. 5
Projection: Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee

Early Prediction- This would be a high profile game. A pair of big-time programs going at it. And expect to see plenty of interesting matchups, and plays. Tennessee and their spread offense against Macho Harris and one of the best, but most inexperienced defenses. Eric Berry and co, against Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon. Maybe most importantly is the play of VT RB Josh Oglesby, or Darren Evans. I think that if they are unable to run the ball it will be to easy for the Tennessee secondary to get stops and win. I see that happening. Tennessee-27, VT-17

Chick-fil-A Bowl
Dec. 31 / 7:30 p.m. ET  Atlanta, Ga. ESPN
Tie-Ins: ACC No. 2 vs. SEC
Projection: Boston College vs. Alabama

Early Prediction- Yet another battle between storied programs. Though BC maybe unhappy at getting left out of the BCS, despite 10 wins, I feel that Alabama is a team that could be in a BCS bowl if all goes right for them, and this should be a great game. I think if BC can establish the run with Josh Haden to keep Bama' honest they should do fine, but the fact is Alabama can neutralize the great BC "D" line and should be able to move the ball, the difference in this game. Alabama-24, BC-14

Insight Bowl
Dec. 31 / 5:30 ET Tempe, Ariz. NFL Network
Tie-Ins: Big Ten No. 6 vs. Big 12 No. 6
Projection: Purdue vs. Oklahoma State

Early Prediction- This will be a high octane wide open game between a pair of spread offenses. In fact 2 of the more underrated QB's in the game in Zac Robinson and Curtis Painter will be going after it in this game. I think that whichever defense can slow up the offenses should do the trick, and I think Purdue behind Anthony Heygood should be able to hold off Oklahoma State. Purdue-37, Oklahoma State-28

Outback Bowl
Jan. 1 / 11 a.m. ET Tampa, Fla. ESPN
Tie-Ins: Big Ten No. 3 vs. SEC
Projection: Illinois vs. South Carolina

Early Prediction- A game that looks like an easy win on paper, but should actually be a great game. The matchups of Juice Williams, Rejus Benn, and Daniel Dufrene, against one of the best defenses in the nation that is led by Emmanuel Cook, Jasper Brinkley, and Eric Norwood. I see the Illinois "D" holding off USC way too much, so the Illini win. Illinois-21, USC-14

Konica Minolta Gator Bowl
Jan. 1 / 1 p.m. ET  Jacksonville, Fla. CBS
Tie-Ins: ACC No. 3 vs. Big 12/Big East/Notre Dame
Projection: Wake Forest vs. Texas A&M

Early Prediction- I see this as a battle of two up-and-coming programs, both who will be vying for 10 win seasons. The battle between TX A&M offense and Wake Forest defense should be a great one and the winner should easily take the game. Simply Wake is too good on "D" and I think that because of Alphonso Smith, and Aaron Curry they should contain the "J-Train" and Mike Goodson, and give Wake a  key win. Wake-28, TX A&M-17

Capital One Bowl
Jan. 1 / 1 p.m. Orlando, Fla. ABC
Tie-Ins: Big Ten No. 2 vs. SEC No. 2
Projection: Penn State vs. Auburn

Early Prediction- Another solid game that would be widely watched. A pair of teams that will be ending year 1 of their spread offense. I think that Auburn is more prepared, simply because they have the players who can get it done and are more proven to me. If Kodi Burns, and the stable of backs just ride the great "O"line Auburn should be able to walk away with a win. Watch out though if DE Maurice Evans, gets loose then PSU should have a great chance to win, but I like Auburn's "D" especially Sen'Derrick Marks to smother the PSU offense anf get a big time win. AU-28, PSU-21

AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Jan. 2 / 5:00 p.m. ET Memphis, Tenn. ESPN
Tie-Ins: C-USA No. 1 vs. SEC No. 6
Projection: Tulsa vs. Arkansas

Early Prediction- What an akward meeting this would be. Tulsa offensive coordinator Gus Malhzan would have to face off against many of the players he abandoned at Arkansas. But anyway, I see Tulsa rolling they have to much passing, and Arkansas doesn't have a good secondary. Tulsa-38, Arkansas-21

AT&T Cotton Bowl
Jan. 2 / 2 p.m. ET Dallas, Texas FOX
Tie-Ins: Big 12 No. 2 vs. SEC
Projection: Texas vs. LSU

Early Prediction- What a game this would be, though fans of both perrenial powerhouses would be angry their team went 9-3 and only came to the Cotton Bowl. I think that by this time Jarrett Lee would have become acclamated and ready, but the key for this game would be the battle of the trenches and this is where LSU rolls. Tyson Jackson, Kirston Pittman, Herman Johnson, and Ciron Black, would be too much for a Texas team weak in the trenches to handle. Still expect a close game, because McCoy can keep them in it, but I see LSU pulling through. LSU-31, Texas-24

International Bowl
Jan. 3 / 12 p.m. ET Toronto, Canada ESPN2
Tie-Ins: Big East vs. MAC No. 4 or 5
Projection: Louisville vs. Toledo

Early Prediction- Regardless of the fact that this would not be a great bowl spot for either team don't expect a real competeitve game. Lousiville has too much talent, like Hunter Cantwell and Eric Wood, to let an average Toledo team get the better of them. Louisville-38, Toledo-14

GMAC Bowl
Jan. 6 / 8 p.m. ET  Mobile, Ala.  ESPN
Tie-Ins: C-USA No. 2 vs. MAC/WAC
Projection: UCF vs. Ball State

Early Prediction- A battle that may be the most underrated game. Ball State and a plethora off offensive weapons try to take down, UCF and their stout "D". Nate Davis is a top QB, and Dante Love, and Darius Hill are near the top for their positions, but UCF counters with CB Joe Burnett, and Sha-reff Rashad, both all-conference players. Expect a classic battle with Davis' weapons pulling through. Ball State-31, UCF-28

Rose Bowl presented by Citi
Jan. 1 / 5:10 p.m. ET  Pasadena, Calif. ABC
*BCS vs. BCS  (Big Ten Champion vs. Pac 10 Champion, if available)

Projection:  Wisconsin vs. USC

Early Prediction- A great matchup, a power running heavy team in Wisky, and a West Coast offense team in SC. Expect SC to use a lot of new and interesting ways to put the balls in their playmakers hands, much like how the did against Illinois, but expect Wisky to control the clock behind PJ Hill, Zach Brown, Lance Smith, and John Clay. Though Mark Sanchez should be used to pressure by now, I still feel he will make a few mistakes and keep Wisconsin in the game. In the end SC should use their great LB's to get after Everidge and slow the power running game. SC-27, Wisconsin-20,

Allstate Sugar Bowl
Jan. 2 / 8:30 p.m. ET  New Orleans, La. FOX
*BCS vs. BCS  (SEC Champion, if available)
Projection:  Florida vs. Pitt

Early Prediction-  Maybe the biggest mismatch in the BCS, because I don't think that Pitt can stay with a Florida team that is loaded. Early expect a heavy dose of Shady McCoy, and don't be stunned if he is successful, and allows Pitt to jump in front early. Florida, though you can count on Meyer, and co.. to create something special for the bowl. Expect Tebow and Harvin to do the majority of the running, simply because it may be their last college game, and I wouldn't worry too much about overuse in this one. If Pitt can get past the Florida "O" line then they stand a chance, but I don't see that happening so expect Florida to pull away and roll over Pitt. FLorida-35, Pitt-17

 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Jan. 5 / 8 p.m. Phoenix, Ariz. FOX
*BCS vs. BCS (Big 12 Champion, if available)
Projection:  Missouri vs. BYU

Early Prediction- Sure most may say an easy win for Mizzou, but watch out. BYU offensivly has the weapons to score with Missouri. In fact I anticipate a great shootout, between Max Hall and Chase Daniel. Early BYU should give an overconfident Mizzou team a shock and jump out to early success behind Jan Jorgenson, and Harvey Unga. Mozzou needs to just establish the run to keep a weak secondary a little honest. Expect at least 1 game-breaking run/special teams play from Jeremy Maclin that will break the game open, but I don't think BYU will go away. In the end Daniel shows veteran leadership and should carry Mizzou to the win, but not without a scare. Missouri-38, BYU-31

FedEx Orange Bowl
Jan. 1 / 8 p.m. Miami Gardens, Fla. FOX
*BCS vs. BCS (ACC Champion, if available)
Projection: Clemson vs. Texas Tech

Early Prediction-To me these are 2 teams everyone is talking about though many due to past failures are not giving them the shot to get to a BCS Bowl. Anyway I think Oklahoma is more deserving, but as the BCS has shown in the past (Kansas over Mizzou), it doesn't like selecting teams coming off of a loss for the BCS. Anyway as for the game I think Clesmon's passing attacks will be nuetralized simply because TTU has great corners like Jamar Wall, and though Clemson should be able to run very well this should keep the game competetitive. The problem for TTU is Clemson has one of the top 5 secondaries in the nation, and that could cause problems. Expect TTU to jump out early and appear to be ready to dominate, until Clemson steps in and plays well enough to hold on. Clemson-31, TTU-28

FedEx BCS National Championship
Jan. 8 / 8 p.m. Miami Gardens, Fla. FOX
*BCS #1 vs. BCS #2
Projection: Ohio State vs. Georgia

Early Prediction- As an OSU fan I honestly have no idea who to pick. I really honestly feel like OSU should be able to pull this game out, but I think I am underestimating Georgia. Anyway this should be a great title game, if it pans out. Both teams have QB's with great physical attributes, but neither is performing at an all-american level. Both have deep backfields, but that is where the similarities end. I see this game as being a running game, though the game like most will be won in the trenches. Ohio State's offensive line is stout behind Alex Boone, and Steve Rehgrig and Georgia has Geno Atkins and Jeff Owens, but I feel that OSU has a better defense and at least equal offense, so I am going to take the Buckeyes in a classic game. OSU-21, Georgia-20

***I did the selctions like the commitee does, Big 12 #2 doesn't mean second place team from Big 12 it means 2nd selected team from Big 12****

Thats pretty bold to think USC will lose to UCLA in Nuhiesels's first year. I think Carroll and Co. will be looking to make a statement in that game however, to establish just who the big dog in town is. They are going to put a beating on UCLA for what may be the last time in a long time.

July 13, 2008  10:07 AM ET

I like it, but I think LSU has to be in the 09 top ten, they are getting everybody back on defense with exception of tyson Jackson and Darry Beckwith, and on offense we're losing one starter, Demetrious Byrd.

July 13, 2008  10:14 AM ET

I thought they also lost Johnson, Helms, and Black, but I guess I kid of overlooked them.

This was a great blog even though I don't completely agree with it. I really have doubts that OSU will absolutely win their division this year. I think its being taken for granted as is Georgia. Sort of like the USC thing in the PAC 10. I think we are so enamored with who will compete with OSU for the title that people don't stop to consider that they are not a lock. Especially considering that they not only have their traditional rivalries in the Big 10 but they play USC this year as well. Like I said, great blog.

Maryland will be lot higher, we will be last season plus 3 wins. Since our o line is 4/5 returning starters, Darius Heyward-Bey, and Nepoleon Dynimite (Chris Turner)

Another great blog scarletbuckeye, I like the fact you think that Nebraska's a sleeper team, and a rematch in the Alamo against Michigan would be a great game. I'm still amazed after their win a couple years ago. I also like that you have FAU gong 10-2, they're going to be a great team, and I can't believe their coach hasn't been offered a job at like Baylor or Washington St. or somewhere like that. He took a unknown college with a new football program to the top of the Sun Belt Standings. Another thing I like is the Central Michigan win over Rutgers. Dan Lefevour is a beast and should pass all over the Scarlet Knight D.

A couple things I don't like, Maryland being 3-9 and 0-8 in the ACC, they're going to be a solid bowl eligible team this year, and no way do they not get 0 conference wins. Colorado going 5-7, this is a talented team though they did lose Jordan Dizon and Terrence Wheatley, but I think they go 7-5. Also Vandy getting only 2 wins this year won't happen, they did ok last year, and I think they build on that.

Again great analysis

July 13, 2008  04:08 PM ET

Oh and Ohio State is another good call. I think this is the year they finally win the NC. They return their QB, top rusher, top reciever, top defense, and a great coach. This team will win the whole thing this year.

Good anylisis but Ohio St beateing any SEC powerhouse is not gonna happen I understand you gave it some thought, Nonhomerish right there, i'm talking about Tennessee, Florida, LSU, Auburn or UGA, sorry to throw your thought to the side scarlet but I think every one here agrees with me, even some OSU fans, 0-9 against SEC now and soon to be 0-10, expect it to be one of the bigger blowouts of the OSU vs SEC natinal championships

July 13, 2008  05:13 PM ET

almost everyone agrees, except for Mike : )

very extensive blog, I like it.

I have to say that you put a great deal of thought/work into this, but I can't say that I agree with your conclusions. I doubt any team (including my beloved UF) will run the table this year. As an OSU fan, you feel obligated to pick them, and they will be very good. That being said, there is no way you run the table. The rest of the Big 10 is creeping up on you, and you have that big date with SC. You are bound to drop one of those games.

I also don't see you getting back to the NC game, even with only one loss. History is not on your side. The voters will take ANY other team this year over OSU, just because of the last two beatings you took.

Is that fair? No, I don't think so.... but I can see it happeneing pretty easily.

On another note, there is no way Tebow is leaving school early... espescially in your scenario that he doesn't win either an SEC or National Title.

July 18, 2008  05:40 AM ET

i don't like the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl game. Tulsa vs Arkansas. i don't like for teams to play twice, like last season when Purdue i think it was played CMU. the bowl games need to be new blood to me. someone you don't play during the year. Arkansas and Tulsa play each other this season, but it was a good article, don't agree with a lot of it, but it was nice reading.

July 18, 2008  10:24 PM ET

Of course, Ohio St's predicte to appear in the National Championship. Of course. No one ever factors in how wimpy their schedule is. This year, the Pig 10's gonna be even wimpier than usual, because Michigan's rebuilding. Every year, the writer's sneak some Pig 10 team into the top 10 or 5, and every year that team gets demolished. OSU's never beaten an SEC team in a Bowl game. Not in like 10 tries. They lost to South Carolina two years in a row!

You guys are just praying--praying to God for some miricle--that OSU comes to LA and wins on some fluke play, just to give you some sort of bragging rights or false pride. It's pathetic.

OSU played Kent St last year!! In November!

One thing I will give the SEC crowd, is at least they have the toughest conference. By far. They don't have the toughest schedules, but they do have the toughest conference.

Wow, thats an amazing blog, good job. u are somebody who researches and actually knows what the hell they are talking about

Wow, great blog. Must have taken a lot of work. I do not think you're an entirely off about USC, but I'm wondering who you think will beat them in the Pac-10. I'm a USC fan and usual Pac-10 bragger. But I have a feeling this will be a very very off year for the conference overall. So who's gonna beat the Trojans in conference?
