And now, finally football is into the meat and bones of conference play. There aren't any huge matchups between expected top 10 teams this week, but there are plenty of games to get excited about.
MUST SEE
There really isn't a game that stands out. So, I'll say for this weekend, you MUST SEE a game live. If you can't get to a big time college football game, go do some onine research and check out the biggest high school game in driving distance on Friday night. Seriously, I know the state of the economy and I know how hard it is to buy tickets, gas, tail gating supplies, parking ect. But I know too many people who are huge football fans who haven't been to an actual game in years! You forget what it is all about, the fight songs, the tailgating, the cheers, the charged atmosphere on campus starting Wed-Thurs. Take my advice, and head to one of the top 40 football schools in the nation and take in a major rivalry game...It'll be worth it and something you will never forget.
SHOULD SEE
Connecticut at Louisville 7:00 Fri Sept. 26th ESPN2
These teams both come in with a couple tough games under their belt so we'll already know a little bit about each team. This may go a long way in decideing the Big East pecking order. Was last year a fluke for Louisville and will they be better? Was sharing the Big East title last year a fluke for Connecticut?
Tennessee at Auburn 2:30 Sat Sept. 27th CBS (probably)
Winner would have an outside shot at the SEC championship game. I'm not to pumped up about his game, but it is by far the best of the early afternoon games (so far).
Alabama at Georgia 7:00 Sat Sept. 27th ESPN
These teams are also both battle tested at this point, and very possibly both undefeated. If that is the case, this may be MUST SEE TV.
Virginia Tech at Nebraska TBA Sat Sept. 27th TBA
Nebraska should be better than last year, and we will find out during this game as they open with 3 layups and a bye. Virginia Tech may not be the BCS caliber team of last year, but then again they might. By the way, if Virginia Tech hadn't scheduled a tough non conference game like LSU last year, they would have played Ohio State for the championship. They finished with only 1 other loss which was at the last second and made Matt Ryan extremely rich.
Illinois at Penn State 7:00 Sat Sept. 27th ABC
This is the first chance for us to see how good Penn State is and whether or not they will be in contension for the BCS. We'll know more about Illinois by virtue of their monster game against Missouri. This game will be important for BIG 10 pecking order, and it'll be fun to see the Fighting Illini spread offense against the Nittany Lion defense.
Wisconsin at Michigan TBA Sat Sept. 27th TBA
Wisconsin might be the only challenger to Ohio State for the Big10. We'll see right here.
DON'T BOTHER
TCU at Oklahoma TBA Sat Sept. 27th TBA
TCU isn't as good as last year. Blowout city.
