Elton Brand deal | ahung's Blog

The new rage on Fannation is Elton Brand's "betrayal", 'trickery" and whatever crap people are saying. All that is obviously because Clippers Fans and other people are mad he went back on his statements of signing for less with the Clippers to help them become a contender. He convinced Baron Davis to sign with his team, and then walked off. However, he didn't walk off to betray the team.

Elton Brand's statements were taken advantage of by the Clippers, who offered him a contract much less than his worth since they got Baron Davis. Elton had asked for a bigger contract, but the Clippers took too long to give him a bigger contract and by the time they decided, the 76'ers decided to give him a better contract and he took it. And you all must remember he's from the East coast, this would be like going back home for him, like what James Jones did by joining the Heat.

This being said, Elton Brand did not pull a Boozer. The Cavaliers had given Boozer an offer immediately, and he just walked out for more money. Even he did not do anything wrong, as he was 22, he just wanted more money. An immature mistake, and I am sure any of you people would do what Brand or Boozer did. And where is this stuff about Duke giving lying dishonest players? Because 2 people from Duke try to get more money, suddenly Duke is an evil college? Plenty of good honest players came from Duke like Shane Battier, Grant Hill, and Corey Maggette, among others.

Going back on topic, Elton Brand is going to be a great player for the 76'ers. He'll fill up the low post for them, and he'll help Samuel Dalembert with the defense down low for them. Look for them to be maybe a top 5-6 seed with 44+ wins with his addition at the VERY LEAST! He'll have a chance to prove that he has fully recovered from his Achilles injury and that he can still play with the skill he had before the injury. The 76'ers have a chance of going much deeper this year in the playoffs granted off course, everyone, especially Brand, stay healthy. With Andre Miller running the offense, Andre Iguodala an excellent driver and good defender, and Elton Brand bringing in low post scoring and defense and rebounding, they have a high change of being much better next year.

We might never know what happened between the Clipps and Brand during those negotiations,but as far as I know,Brand opted out because he wanted to give the Clipps economic flexibility to go after a great player in the free agency(in this case Baron Davis).What a seems to a "lowballing" offer made to Brand,was a total misunderstanding as the Clipps were looking at how to be below the tax luxury and also use that extra money to bring another impact player that will make them a contender in the West,they knew that having just Davis and Brand wasn't gonna be enough that's why they were looking for ways to bring back Maggette.I feel Brand misled the Clipps by made them believe that it wasn't about the money,it was about winning,when at the end it seems really clear that it was all about the money.The Clipps offered $70 mill initially but that was too low according to Brand's agent,which prompted him to start looking around the league to see who will offer more,being the Sixers the ones making a higher offer of $80 mill,by then it was already too late as the Clipps tried to match that offer without getting a response from Brand's agent...So to sum up,"he pulled a Boozer" on the Clipps....he gave his word and didn't keep it,that's a "Boozer" for itself...

All Elton Brand did was basically create the Clippers in the East when he signed with the 76ers. But at least he'll be able to get into the playoffs in the East.
