What's going on with Khalil Greene/SD Union Tribune blog?

While few here will care about the San Diego Padres and shortstop Khaili Greene, the Chicago Cubs, and the San Diego Union Tribune as we get ready for the MLB All-Star Game tonight, something appears to be going on here the last two days. The San Diego Union Tribune's Padres Blog which has posts on the paper's website almost daily had an interesting little nugget yesterday, Monday 7-14-08. According to the blog post, there was talk recently between San Diego officials and the Chicago Cubs about the Cubs possibly getting Greene in a trade (for those who don't know and do care, the Cubs first tried to draft Greene before he signed with the Padres out of Clemson). The post went on to say that it appears Greene isn't going anywhere thanks in part to his poor offensive numbers at the moment (and for most of the season) depleting his trade value.

Fannation obviously thought it was enough of a story that it posted it in Truth&Rumors yesterday, Monday at 5:12 pm EST. I look at it as big news for Padres fans like me because Greene (my favorite athlete in all of pro sports regardless of the slump) had a huge year last year at the plate, and in the offseason signed a long term contract and avoided a possible free agent conflict to come. And of course Cubs fans, who can finally imagine a World Series should be interested in every possible transaction for their team currently. If you're a San Diego fan at this point you're resigned to the fact you're watching Triple A players preparing for the furture, all over the field on a given night.

But suddenly at some point either late last night or early today, the SD Union Tribune took the blog post off its site. It is not even in the archives of the "Padres Blog" on the site. As well, if you click on the paper on the fannation T&R, you will also find it is gone.

So what is going on here San Diego? False info that should have been fact-checked before it was posted? News of things to come, the Padres don't want out there yet and were able to convince the paper to delete? As a Padres fan and Greene fan, I want answers. But I may not like what I may hear...
