Reigning AL batting champion Magglio Ordonez played a rehab stint with the Tigers low A affiliate West Michigan Whitecaps on Monday night. The gates to Fifth-Third Ballpark opened at 3:30 in the after noon so fans could watch batting practice and get autographs from the right fielder. Ordonez didn't dissapiont his fans either, going 1-4 with a base hit and run scored to help the Whitecaps end a four game losing streak by beating the Peoria Chiefs 10-2. Tiger prospects Cory Middleton and Ron Bourquin each had three hits in the game to contribute.
Taking the place of Ordonez in Detroit, former Whitecap Matt Joyce was named the American League Player of the Week from July 7-13. Joyce went 9-22, hit four home-runs, four doubles, and six RBI's. He was called up from the AAA Toledo Mud Hens when Magglio got injured. Joyce played in West Michigan in 2006 and helped them win the Midwest League Championship.

Wow...that must've been GREAT for the fans of the Whitecaps to see Magglio Ordonez in person and get a chance to get autographs from him.

I was at the game on Sunday when they announced he'd be there, and that game sold out in no-time. Just my luck, I miss him by one day.
