The Associated Press reports today that Yao Ming will make his first competitive appearance since his NBA-season-ending foot surgery in February later this week. If all goes well we can expect to see Yao in the Stankovic Cup with Team China in Hangzhou. All of China, it seems, has been holding its breath since Yao announced his Houston Rockets season was over. He hasn't played a professional game since February 24 when the Rockets were twelve games into their 22-game win streak, so it will be good to see him back in action. And then China can exhale collectively and wait for the big 'un - China plays the U.S. in its Olympic opener, the hottest ticket in Beijing on the night of August 10. The game starts at 10:15 p.m. local time so it will be a late, late night, but one for which you can bet all of China will stay up.
