Since looking over the schedule a bit more, I can say for sure that last week, (Week 7) is the biggest week in college football. But week 8 isn't bad at all. There aren't any games between national championship contenders (that we can see as of now) but there are plenty of big games that will be interesting, and it is probably the biggest week of non-BCS/Notre Dame football. The Big 12 has a couple monster games, Ohio State faces a tough test, and the ACC has a rematch of its biggest game from last year. If I miss a big game, PLEASE let me know so I can watch it myself. Feel free to leave other college football comments.
MUST SEE
Virginia Tech at Boston College TBA TBA
This was one of the biggest games of the year last year. Both teams are sure fire contenders in the wide open ACC. Depending on how the season goes, this could determine a BCS participant. Even if both teams have a couple losses at this point, it is always fun to see the ex-Big East teams go at each other since more geographic rivialries for the schools haven't been established yet (except Miami-Florida State). By the way, it would make a lot of sense to switch South Florida to the ACC and BC back to the Big East. They both are isolated as far as their conferences go.
SHOULD SEE
BYU at TCU 7:00 Thus Oct. 16th VS.
Along with Utah, these Moutain West teams would have a chance at finishing over 500 in any conference except the SEC. In 2008, this threeseome is much better than the WAC Boise State, Fresno State, and Hawaii. Although most of the experts have Utah as the best team in the Moutain West, I believe BYU has just as good a team. TCU isn't far behind, and their defense will always be BCS level. Hurray Beer. Hurray Thursday night football. Boo no playoff system.
Missouri at Texas 11:00 Sat Oct 17th FSN (not confirmed)
If Texas is still in contention for the Big 12 South, this is MUST SEE TV. Oklahoma and Texas Tech don't have to play Mizzu, so this is a huge game for Missouri to prove themselves to voters if Texas is having a good season.
Michigan at Penn State 3:30 Sat Oct. 17th ESPN/ESPN2
I'm letting my biased show but Penn State has been dominated by Michigan since joining the Big 10. There have been several years where they have had better seasons but have still lost to UM, and Michigan broke up their otherwise perfect season three years ago with 2 seconds left on a controversial decision to add time on the clock (this game was overshadowed by the USC-Notre Dame Bush Push going on at the same time). This season looks to be as good of a chance as any for the Lions to finally get one.
Georgia Tech at Clemsen TBA TBA
I'm putting a ton of ACC games in because the conference is so wide open. By the time week 8 rolls around one or both of these teams might have a few losses.
Kansas at Oklahoma TBA TBA
This is a game to see if Kansas is for real, if last season was the Norm, if they really have turned their program around. Since before I can remember, Kansas has been strictly a baskeball school. They didn't have to play Oklahoma last year, so it will be nice to see the long time power against last year's upstart.
Ohio State at Michigan State TBA TBA
Many experts have Michigan State as this years Missouri. A team that has been decent but unlucky and held down by traditional in-conference powers. They showed last year their smash mouth offense and solid defense could keep them in games against solid opponents. A win would be huge, especially if their football big brothers, Michigan, get beat down by the Buckeyes.
DON'T BOTHER
Hawaii at Boise State 7:00 Fri Oct. 17th ESPN
This might be worth watching if it was played in Hawaii, but the Rainbow has always been mediocre in the continental US. With the Hawaii offensesive losses Boise St is a far better team and this should be a blowout. If anybody from the state of Hawaii actually reads this, sorry for the bashing you every couple weeks but we'll see a more solid Warrior team next year.
